Round 20: Other Matches

Really? Wow. Conform or be sacked is your view?

There is no need for discrimination.

Try and tell gay people not to be gay. Be straight or be sacked. Tell black people to be white. Be white or be sacked. Tell Islam people to go to Catholic Churches and ban Mosqs or be sacked.

Wake up to yourself.
Playing Rugby League is a privilege. Players want to use "religious freedom" to express their homophobic views but have no issue collecting money from sponsorships with gambling and alcohol companies.

If you want to quote religion then abide by all the rules not just picking and choosing the ones that suit your backwards agenda.

This is why no one since Ian Roberts has felt comfortable enough to come out, imagine the backlash if they did and players dont want to play alongside them or share a change room with them.

Rugby got rid of Israel Folau for this nonsense and righly so.

The club has the right to support whatever cause they like and the players have the right to abstain from playing regardless of whether they are right or wrong in your view. I believe that what the club has done is admirable in supporting this cause and the players are also admirable for standing up for what they believe in.

The outcome as it stands, is the correct outcome at this point in time.

Nobody blinked when SBW made the roosters change a sponsor or two on his jersey because he didn't support gambling. This is the same thing imo.

I can understand that LGBTQ community members may feel aggrieved by this but members of the religious community will also feel the same and we shouldn't value one more than the other.

What is happening at Manly is stimulating conversation and raising awareness of this issue and at the end of the day, that is what it should be doing.

Agree that this sets a double standard.

It’s saying that it’s not acceptable to promote anti-LGBTQ speak in public (aka Folau), but it’s cool if you believe that stuff within the sanctity of your church… how does that work?

Also, let’s examine the line ‘it’s against my religion’.

That is saying 1 of 2 things, either:

1. I am not in support of equal rights and inclusion for the LGBTQ community.

Now, whether that is based on faith or not, that is a hurtful and hateful position to take.

Or 2. I don’t think for myself.

Which is possibly even more concerning.

I kind of a agree that this ‘it’s my religion’ thing needs to be held up to closer examination when it affects those other than the individual. Wear a hat, eat certain foods, don’t go to work on certain days, all good. But if you want to hate on a group of people because the church told you to, nah, not cool.

"Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate."

sadly, when you attempt to virtue signal and demand people follow your moral compass the result often ends in divisio.

i don’t give a flying **** what beliefs people hold. Just don’t force them on others

Let’s try and keep this on topic all.

Well in terms of football, the presser held by Manly confirms that the 7 players will NOT be playing against the Roosters and that their replacements will be doing everything possible to win against the Roosters and support the Pride jersey. DCE and Des are definitely putting on a brave face. As we have seen before with the chip snatchers when their backs are against the wall they usually respond with the siege mentality. Glory, glory

Manly to beat the Roosters by 20+ points. (Of course - this ain’t going to happen now).
This may not be a bad thing for us. Currently we are 4 points clear of Manly. Their points differential is (+18) and ours is (+71). This could potentially take them out of being able to catch us.

Even if we are to lose to that would still mean they would have to win 3 more games than us to be ahead of us.

I know it would mean the Roosters would be at our heels, but having one less team to worry about could be a good thing.

Parra are a team in danger of missing the 8 as well. They have a tough draw and we have a stronger points differential to them.

The best thing for us would be to win against the Sharks and still have that 4 point gap on the chasing teams.

Yes massive double standards to play in a strip with pointsbet emblazoned across the front of it and at a venue sponsored by an alcohol manufacturer/brand. Gambling and drinking alcohol is probably also against their religion.

A handful of potential debutants have rejected the opportunity to play their first NRL game joining their teammates boycotting Thursday’s match as Des Hasler apologises for the jersey fiasco.

The Daily Telegraph has learnt the Sea Eagles are scrambling to field a team before the 4pm deadline after a handful of would-be first timers knocked back a chance to play the game.

It is understood they did so on similar grounds to that of the seven Manly players who have also stood-down.
