Round 20: Other Matches

Amusing that they are offended by the Pride Jersey but have sponsorship agreements with gambling and alcohol companies...

So in about 48 hours we've had:

* Stephen Crichton graphically lose a chunk of his ear from a controversial head clash/dangerous tackle
* The Tigers get absolutely rorted of a victory from an all-time refereeing howler; club threatens legal action; NRL incomprehensibly defends their incorrect process but admits wrong decision
* Kevin Proctor films himself vaping in the sheds at half time and post it to social media; then gets immediately sacked by the Titans
* A player referred directly to the judiciary for an eye gouge
* Seven Manly players stand down from the weekend's game in a massive match for their top 8 chances, over a pro LGBTQIA jersey

Rugba Leeg baby!

Will be interesting to see what actually happens tomorrow when they name the side. Will they actually name those players?

This is a big game for them. Playing another team fighting for that top 8 spot. If those players don’t play it could cost them a top 8 spot. The thing is not only will this just be 2 competition points but a huge loss could be just about end their season.

Yes it is, women can also be LGBTIQA+ and, in fact, several NRLW players openly are
Never said they couldn’t be. Never said I was against being so. Good luck to them. Point is, it isn’t gay pride round. It is women in league round.

There is no gay pride round (which is kinda the point).

Agree the WIL round timing is an interesting choice.

Otherwise, I actually think this has been handled pretty well. Good on the club for taking the initiative to show their support of that community and their contribution/participation/inclusion in the game. Ditto not taking a step back when religious-leaning players choose to sit out (as they are free to do).

For what it’s worth, if there was a church appreciation jersey I’d happily sit out the round, regardless of the top 8 ramifications.

Based on the F/A, we need:

Manly to beat the Roosters by 20+ points. (Of course - this ain’t going to happen now).
Warriors to have a game for the ages and beat the Storm. Score doesn’t really matter because of the Storm’s F/A
Penriff to smash the Eels into next week.
Tits to actually remember how to play football and beat the Raiders
Us of course
Cowboys.

And as I’d like to see Newcastle come last (even though it’s not possible), Bulldogs to continue their late season razzle dazzle.

Just East's luck to get Manly when they've reduced themselves to a shambles. I don't know maybe it will somehow lift the Eagles performance - I just doubt it.

Cheers

Ridiculous that the Roosters may benefit from this. Also ridiculous that Manly are happy to gamble with their season over a political statement.

Some things are bigger than footy. Manly will be on the right side of history with this choice.

Both in the concept, and being fine with players wishing to stand down.

Good for them.

However, it doesn’t appear they have consulted a key stakeholder of their Club… the players!

If Manly feel so strongly about LGBTQ rights, will they neglect to name these players moving forward? Will they neglect to re-sign them? I doubt it.

So is it simply a marketing ploy? Or do they deeply care about minorities?

EDIT: I also appreciate the player's hypocrisy of emblazoning gambling and alcohol brands across their chests and back.

Rugby League... the gift that keeps on giving (in more ways than one).
