News, General Articles and Discussion

With Tom leaving, I’m open to May, May AND Hastings.

It won’t happen, but remember that Cody Walker has 1 year left on his contract.

The plan was to let Reynolds go and manage a transition of a 7 into the side, so that when Cook and Walker moved on, Mitchell and the 7 would carry things on with the 2 new faces (as opposed to 3 if Reynolds had stayed). At least, that is what the clubs motivation should have been.

With no obvious 7 in place 18 months out from Cody and Cook being off contract, 100% all options are in play.

Don’t rule out us needing to bring in a less desirable veteran half to partner Gray’s transition into the side. Wighton is also an option at 6, so at that point a centre would be handy.

This club should be considering all options for 2025 and beyond.

We’re far from a settled proposition at the moment by roster wise, and any position strengthened makes the team better. May at prop is better than what we have according to most judges (I haven’t seen enough of him personally). Likewise Hastings is a better, more experienced 7 than Hawkins or Ilias.

We should be pretty open minded at this point.
Recruiting for a 7 sounds really ugly when you consider all the best 7s currently are in their mids 30s or no chance of leaving their club (Cleary).

The one thing you don’t want to do (if the club think Gray is a long term half), is not pair him with a veteran through his early seasons.

It very rarely works the other way.

You hear all the time ‘club X has an exciting new spine all about to debut’, it never pans out. St George, Tigers, we’ve done it in the past.

You want to debut spine guys into a settled, lower responsibility environment. Essentially like Lachie got.

It absolutely shits me to tears that typing a transcript of a stupid ****ing talking heads panel tv show now passes as “journalism”. Useless turds
The state of RL media is appalling. News Ltd/Fox and Nine/SMH both do it.

Step 1 - Write BS article/opinion piece.
Step 2 - Discuss BS article/opinion on TV show.
Step 3 - Write about discussion of article with new points.

Rinse and repeat.

It's boring, and podcasts are leaving TV for dead.

I will never, ever fathom a 24/7 NRL channel that doesn't have a single hour dedicated to match previews or reviews.

I think the league realise that with all the access the main podcasts are getting to events and players now.

The writing is on the wall for veteran journos and traditional panel shows.

👏👏👏

Except they write about said discussion, without any new points.

Fox League has put the same "story" about Matty John's views about Souths 6 times now, each time as breathless new information. Not a word changed from the original article (yes, I keep falling for the ****ing clickbait headline).

And your last sentence does my ****ing head in. We've got 4 middle aged white morons screaming at each other on repeat - mostly about stuff that's got nothing to do with the games coming up or just finished. Interspersed with the same ****ing gambling ads on repeat.

I'd say that Matty John's midweek "podcast" is the only exception. He and Cronk do a pretty good job of analysis.

But I listen to TBR podcast each week, and the Capt's run every week (although I've missed it so far this season because I unfollowed it by mistake).

And you're calling the club dumb if we don't try sign the May brothers. The two good ones play in positions (prop and centre) we're arguably strongest in.

Wow you think we are strong in props?

Our props have no aggression or intimidation factor, May has that.

Tom Leaving...

You think we strong in the centres?

One injury and we pretty much screwed.

I don't see Wighton playing the rest of his career as centre, he might not even play the full season there this year.

Yeah the club should try and sign two quality players, as I said it would be dumb not to...

Was it bitter? Also, it was 2 Souths guys going at each other at the end.
