What the hell is this conversation in League rumours?
I assume it’s some US sport being discussed?
It's not the rumour thread
And everyone is going psycho and the 2024 seasons a write off

WHY WIGHTON’S HALVES SWITCH COULD UNLOCK THE RABBITOHS

WHY WIGHTON’S HALVES SWITCH COULD UNLOCK THE RABBITOHS

Jack Wighton was recruited as a ‘luxury’, but Souths are now hoping he’s a saviour.

The former Raider will return to the position he became synonymous with in his later years in Canberra, five-eighth.

He’ll partner Cody Walker, who shifts to halfback, with Dion Teaupa relegated to 18th man.

With the Rabbitohs’ growing injury list, depth in key positions has been exposed, leaving interim coach Ben Hornby with little choice but to try something new.

While Walker’s far from a recognised halfback, the move to put more on Wighton’s plate is both solid in theory and practice. Should Cody have the capacity to handle the bulk of the kicking and directional duties, the club’s star Raiders recruit should be able to seamlessly shift back into the run-first menacing half most rugby league fans know Jack Wighton to be.

The 2024 season is all but cooked for Souths, but shifting the 2019 Clive Churchill Medalist to No.6 offers the team’s back five a better chance to thrive.

There’s always something to play for in professional sports and a couple of outside backs are playing for their future.

The centre pairing of Michael Chee Kam and Taane Milne are two players uncontracted for 2025 and beyond. They now have the chance to trial for their livelihoods, playing outside a halves combination consisting of two Origin-calibre operators.

At best, Wighton’s switch to five-eighth inspires a now-or-never mentality from those playing on the flanks.

At worst, the Rabbitohs just named one of the NRL’s best sixes in his preferred position.

Jack Wighton will play five-eighth.

Kinda weird when you think about it… who’s he flogging and to who? I guess anyone averages up Hull FC’s roster, but sounds like a Richo junket to me…
