2025 Rumours

I could support virtually any player in our colours, apart from Lodge. If he is with us I will still be a Souths fan but no way would I renew my membership.
 
While Lodges past episodes are quite shocking he appears to have been OK since the 2nd chance that Wayne gave him at Broncos. He has been to several clubs since, Warriors, Roosters and Manly so I don't know if he gels with the playing groups or if it is his past following him around, but I thought his most recent stint at Manly was quite good. He is the type of signing Wayne would look at and at 6'4 117kg with a good level of skill Lodge is a reasonable, and cheaper swap in for Tom.
Given the choice I would still rather we chase JAC.

Did Lodge have more than 1 bad episode?, i know he attacked the father of the family he was staying with but from what i saw he was blind drunk, not good no but if nothing else i think we can let him put that outburst in his past and move on, who has not done something they regret when that drunk?.

I've done some dumb things drunk. Assaulting people was not something I ever did though. There was a 9 year old kid present. Read this from the victim.

From what I have read the one bad episode was probably worse than any other 10 or so bad episodes added together. There was also the DV issue his ex-girlfriend brought up from around 2013. If you can get past that then he has been OK since Wayne gave him a 2nd chance.
 
I can understand your position, not defending but he was near legless, i see drunk driving as more serious .

Jeebus some of you can hold a grudge, Lodge's incident was nearly 10 years ago.

Let's forget about building a winning team, because who needs a middle who has played around 120 games, stands about 6 feet 4 and weighs in close to 120kgs and has agro and physical intimdation around him.

Nah, let's just keep building the Bro Culture because that's working so well for us.

It also is a Souths thing. We don't appear to show any interest signing top quality wingers even though that is one area we have been weak in for quite a few years.

1 bad episode?? **** me.

I did some dumb shit when I was young, but this is not trying to break into a car (to sleep in it) and 3am, or driving drunk (neither very good to be clear).

This person went on an alcohol fuelled rampage in NY and physically assaulted the father while terrifying the wife and child.

He should've gone to jail.

I will struggle to support Mr Lodge if he ends up here. I don't think he's absorbed the lesson of this appalling act, or taken any responsbility for it.

I wonder if some posters would be so forgiving if it was an indigenous player accused of this behaviour?
 
Signing Lodge is a bit like Bronn and Ser Vardis. Being honourable is one thing, winning games is another.

What does that have to do with anything?

Not one person is denying he carred out a totally unacceptable violent act, it's not in dispute.

It was 10 years ag and he's been clean since,

The topic is if he is available would he make us a better team and fill a need for us.
The answer is yes

What he has done in the past has absolutely zero bearing on what he may offer as a player to contribute to our pursuit of #22.
 
We punish people in the hope that the punishment dished out can curb behaviour and lead to rehabilitation.

Lodge’s track record would suggest his actions and the resulting punishment (which is still being dolled out by members of the public to this day) has had a severe and positive impact on his current day behaviour.

From a footy point of view, I’d be more concerned about the club hoping, but again, he’s always been pretty decent at every club he’s spent time at.

Wayne knows him personally. Will defer to his opinion.
