2025 Rumours

I had a son throw a brick through his bedroom window to get in when he was drunk, could have had terrible outcomes, IE cutting an artery, including me throttling him , but if Lodge has been clean for 10 years i would be ok if he joined, after all a drink driver could kill somebody but we tend to forgive it over a drunken assault..

We punish people in the hope that the punishment dished out can curb behaviour and lead to rehabilitation.

Lodge’s track record would suggest his actions and the resulting punishment (which is still being dolled out by members of the public to this day) has had a severe and positive impact on his current day behaviour.

From a footy point of view, I’d be more concerned about the club hoping, but again, he’s always been pretty decent at every club he’s spent time at.

Wayne knows him personally. Will defer to his opinion.
I agree with your statement and rehabilitiation is an important part of the process.

But a banker who defrauds his employer doesn't go back to being a banker at the end his punishment.

Maybe the thing that grinds my gears the most, is that he hasn't suffered any consequences for his actions - from the outside looking in.

The last time I checked the NY family were still waiting for the setllement money to be paid to them...maybe that's happened now.

And he came back and became a footballer again...no harm, no foul.

And then to have posters dismiss his actions as a youthful indiscretion - "boys will be boys" is galling.

But to be fair, if we do sign him I will end up supporting him and hope he plays out of his skin for us.

(i've never promised to be consistent!)

What does that have to do with anything?

Not one person is denying he carred out a totally unacceptable violent act, it's not in dispute.

It was 10 years ag and he's been clean since,

The topic is if he is available would he make us a better team and fill a need for us.
The answer is yes

What he has done in the past has absolutely zero bearing on what he may offer as a player to contribute to our pursuit of #22.
You're a smart man, you can work out the point I was making.

While Lodges past episodes are quite shocking he appears to have been OK since the 2nd chance that Wayne gave him at Broncos. He has been to several clubs since, Warriors, Roosters and Manly so I don't know if he gels with the playing groups or if it is his past following him around, but I thought his most recent stint at Manly was quite good. He is the type of signing Wayne would look at and at 6'4 117kg with a good level of skill Lodge is a reasonable, and cheaper swap in for Tom.
Given the choice I would still rather we chase JAC.
I fully agree.
It appears he has mended his ways so I for one would be happy for him to come on board.
As to how he gels with teammates, I think we are and will be a pretty tight group, so if he buys into that .... synergy all round.
As to my earlier question about which we need most ... big middle or fast outside back, I am thinking a forward would be a higher priority at this stage...could be wrong...but as I said, there are some nagging concerns about our middles for me and Lodge would really help us out there.
If we lose the forward exchanges, everything else becomes more problematic.

It also is a Souths thing. We don't appear to show any interest signing top quality wingers even though that is one area we have been weak in for quite a few years.
We have AJ, but his career might faulter with his injury now, along with Tass, Munro & Mellars. That seems to be the top four wingers we have. Then behind them we have Myers, Kaho, Bentley-Hape, Lindsay Munro, Kalo-Kalo, Wright.

Our recruitment there seems to be sound, given it still remains a financial consideration as to which players you can sign, with us giving some young talent a go, then from there they either progress or get cut.

We can't simply sign every top notch player on the market, otherwise we will have a reputation like the Looters.

Agree, Surely time has passed to a degree you have to accept a person has turned their life around.
Murder aside, hanging people for eternity seems to be over the top

It has, you obviously havent checked for a while as he settled with them in 2018, He had to sit out of the game for 2 years and take out a bank loan to pay his victms and has been a clean since 2015.

I think he would be great signing just what we need.

That and the public scrutiny. The guy is forever tarnished, compounded by the fact he’s in the public spotlight.

You don’t think the ridicule he faces online and in person, that his family deals with as a result of his actions, is punishment?

Guy has served his sentence.

Agree with Sonic, the main question is why the short term deal everywhere and is that going to be a problem here?

A second chance and forgiveness doesn't have to come hand-in-hand with an elevation back into a position of privilege.

Should he be in gaol today? No.
Should he be forgiven? Yes.
Should he be in the NRL? No.

The crime he committed was horrific, involving terrorising a woman and child aged 9. He served no sentence. It wasn't a run of the mill assault. It was horrendous. He does not deserve to be playing NRL.

Then there were the DV accusations.

I'm not one for holding grudges despite what Darque says, and I do believe in rehabilitation. However, I do not want someone like that involved in our club.

I've read transcripts of him talking about the situation, I'm firmly in the camp that he should be forgiven and allowed to continue his profession.

Hard to understand this.

Guy did something very bad, he admits it.

Guy blacked out and doesn't remember what he did. He broke into a home and punched a wall amongst some other stuff whilst drugged up on sleeping pills and alcohol.

Yeah it was horrible, but I see Mike Tyson getting movie roles and ****ing nothing mentioned anywhere.

The moral outrage seems displaced here.

Unlike another rapist in jdb who not only didn't admit it, was never found innocent and was given standing ovations from rugby league fans.

I really don't give a **** if lodge plays for us ever. Just cannot understand the hysteria.

Jeebus some of you can hold a grudge, Lodge's incident was nearly 10 years ago.

Let's forget about building a winning team, because who needs a middle who has played around 120 games, stands about 6 feet 4 and weighs in close to 120kgs and has agro and physical intimdation around him.

Nah, let's just keep building the Bro Culture because that's working so well for us.
When all is said and done the NRL has already dealt with his incident…..’done the crime and done the time ‘ so to speak. He’s a registered player and allowed to apply his trade which is playing rugby league. The decision for a potential club isn’t clouded with extending his punishment, it’s purely whether he fits the clubs culture a decade after his transgression.

"Teams like the Roosters, who reportedly have a mountain of cap space available..."

Shit like this constantly in the 'news' bugs the shit outta me. The favouritism is vom worthy
