2025 Rumours

There’s no doubt he can make mistakes and time will tell if Hubner is one

You may prefer the opinion of a nobody on the Internet. I don’t

Especially someone with zero knowledge of Hubner who then proclaims “Another lock forward who is small and looks like he has reserve grade written all over him”

We are not talking about a player with exposed form that we can all form some sort of opinio on.

Id suggest WB has an intimate knowledge of Hubner and how he can be of benefit to the club where as sonic is clueless as to what Hubner offers, plays like and bases his opinion on a 30 second instagram post
Well, I may not always agree with his comments, but I dont treat anyone as nobody's... he may actually turn out to be correct in the end.
Especially if Tatole doesn't return to his best, we may end up with a forward pack with plenty of light middles and so I know where he is coming from.
We really need some middles with some kg's and leg speed and drive and aggro.
Remember that 2 of our potential 13s ... Murray and Tallis are NOT big.
Big forwards rushing into them can drive them back and gain momentum for their team.
Maybe that was factoring into his comments?
Even to the point where I would even consider Matthew Lodge in our team.
He does have some baggage maybe but, you know, redemption is always just around the corner.

I thought lodge was one of Manlys better forwards running into the finals last season
He’s actually been fairly effective everywhere he’s been. Any time he’s been down, he’d previously been up by a similar amount or more.

Not skill or output that’s seen him jump from club to club.

I like our pack.

And on the right dollars, I’d take Lodge happily. If you could get him for a single season it would be the icing.

Lodge would come on fairly low dollars and is the type of signing that Wayne would do, and like his Schuster signing, would be real value for money. I would have preferred Lodge to Hubner. Lodge would do a job in the middle that we can use right now, whereas Hubner can do a job that is already filled by 2 or 3 other better players. I don't quite understand the Hubner signing. At the least that spot in our 30 could have been for a shot at JAC or Lodge.

It’s rumoured a few clubs are after Lodge let’s see what happens.

I don’t like the bloke but he’s a good player.

Don't count out Shaq pushing into our 17 either. I doubt we've seen the best of him yet. If we start playing more expansive footy as we should be doing he'll start to shine.
I think Shaq will go well next season. He has a bit of flair to his game that we did not see under JD. The ability to stand in a tackle and get an offload or flick pass away is always an asset in the middle. Who knew he had a chip kick or sideline place kick in him also. With injuries Shaq should get enough games to impress next season and I expect him to go up a level under Wayne. Looking forward to seeing him in the Indigenous all stars in Feb.

I reckon Hubner will go OK.
Didn't break the bank so not a loss if he doesn't blitz
He probably is ok but it looks like he has taken up the last spot in our roster. That spot really needed to go to a player we can use now and to improve our team now, like a low cost JAC or Lodge. If we still have a spot or 2 available then it's fine but I read a post that indicated we had used up our last spot.
Updated. My error. We do have 2 spots.

I actually think Shaq’s biggest issue is people insisting he’s a super skilled dynamic middle.

His best asset is his straight up and down play and low error count.

Have said it before, Shaq could be a really effective Mark Nichols replacement if people could live with the fact that’s what he offers.

Look at the side, we don’t need a member of the Harlem Globetrotters out there and I could care less if he has certainly things in his game that don’t present during the 80 minutes.

We need a big body to get through some work and not drop the ball, give away penalties or miss tackles. I think Shaq does those things well.

There are still 2 top 30 spots left open Bruster. And a dev spot.

Yes, my mistake. It is 28. So Lodge and JAC are still on the table. I counted this and came up with 30. (I guess that's why Santa checks his list twice).

Euan Aitken, Jai Arrow, Lewis Dodd, Tallis Duncan, Thomas Fletcher, Campbell Graham, Jye Gray, Siliva Havili, Jacob Host, Lachlan Hubner, Jamie Humphreys, Lachlan Ilias, Alex Johnston, Sean Keppie, Keaon Koloamatangi, Ben Lovett, Peter Mamouzelos, Haizyn Mellars, Latrell Mitchell, Shaquai Mitchell, Davvy Moale, Tyrone Munro, Cameron Murray, Josh Schuster, Isaiah Tass, Junior Tatola, Cody Walker and Jack Wighton

Development List for 2025

Gerome Burns, Liam Le Blanc, Max McCarthy, Fletcher Myers and Nazareth Taua

If we do have 2 spots left then not only JAC and Lodge are still a possibility but the retention of Milne would also be a consideration, or one of those 3. Usually we would fill 29 spots and leave one for a late mid-season option. (That would also permit the Caleb Clarke rumour to start up again).🤣

Plenty of newcomers and others returning from injuries will make things very interesting moving forward.
Should be some really intense competition for spots too ... many sub plots as it were!
