2025 Pre-Season

They haven’t fired a shot against the top of the competition since Cordner and Friend retired. Despite putting out an ‘All Stars’ team the media love each year.
Since 2020 the Roosters have won only one game out of 20 against the top 2 sides, Storm and Penrith. That is quite remarkable considering they, according to the media every year, start as one of the favourites and have a team of superstars every year.

I have little problem with the sentiment of what I’ve heard from the May quotes. He’s just being honest.

The end result (regardless the thought process) is a very good footballer.

Why we feel the need to have all these guys speak the same and have the same mental approach to the game is beyond me.

He plays well, who cares what his thought process or approach is?

Passion isn’t the only catalyst for success. Some people just like to do a good job at what they’re doing, or are naturally competitive - passion or ‘love of the game’ isn’t a pre-requisite despite what fans would like to think.
Because you have a whole lot of wanna bes on here who’d give their left nut to play 1st grade and can’t understand why someone with that much talent doesn’t like the game.

(I’m with you by the way, I don’t think he’s Robinson Crusoe in playing the game for money alone).

The point is pretty simple. Someone said in an individual sport like tennis it doesn't matter too much if someone does a Nick Kyrgios - ie is uncommitted, chucks in the towel mid game etc - but in a team game (like league) it's very different. I gave the example of a rowing team where one person's actions, for whatever reasons, might completely destroy the team's chances. Might that apply to a half-committed player like May?
If a player is lets say disenfranchised with the game itself, then if that attitude starts to spill over to similar feelings about ... the coach, tactics, pay, other players etc, it could somewhat undermine team morale if they start to white ant ... but don't think club would allow that to fester.
Would affect our cap$$ ifn he doesn't perform.
A 1 year contract with a club option could be a comprise... if we even have the $$$.

Loosely I suppose

I don’t know what the psychology behind her situation was, not that fussed
I don’t even fully know Mays story
I just suspect if the interview where he said he doesn’t really like playing has something to do with getting let go, I suspect there’s more to it & the roosters have probably noticed more

It’s also weird that people are so black and white with this stuff.

Like people have never experienced a mixed emotion before.

You can say and believe people are the worst, and also enjoy people in the right settings and quantities. You can be an entertainer on stage and also be an introvert. He hasn’t said he goes around the locker room trashing culture and morale. These are his private thoughts and internal motivations.

For mine you can only judge him by his actions on the field

He has a 98% tackle efficiency and 110 run meters per game suggesting to me that he’s someone who shows up for his teammates

I also remember Robinson commenting that he also delivers what is asked of him

I just think he’s a player screaming to be put under the wing of Wayne. He has the potential to be his Webke

The club should at the very least have a meeting with him. If Wayne decides he’s what we need, just make it happen

I think (lucky for us) that whilst they are willing to rotate through players and pivot when they have made an error (much better than us IMO), they don't want to deal with the fact that it might be Wobbo that's the issue.

I get it, he's won 3 comps and I hope they keep persisting, as I think the game might have passed him.

I know this is left field but I get a feeling The Rorters might be clearing cap space to make a play for Paps and move Teddy to 5/8

Really? I've talked footy with Big Ian and I got anything but that impression. He spoke passionately about footy and his time at the Rabbitohs.
Below is from an article, but I think I first read something similar in his biography. He was a star in the juniors and kept getting picked in the rep teams and just went with the flow.

“At the age of 17 rugby league had fulfilled its role as a rite of passage and Roberts was done with the game. He had suffered a number of concussions and felt he didn’t really love it any more. It was his father who talked him back into playing.”

Yes, I think I agree. Whatever his musings off the field, he certainly performs well when on the field!

Clearly the chooks have enough reason
To pump him
There’s obviously lots we don’t know
They’ve lost a heap of front row stock, I don’t know why they’d have let him go unless there was more to it
Could be attitude affecting the whole team
Prospective clubs have ways of finding out with regards these things, so it’ll be interesting to see who lines up for his services

Interesting. Not surprising in a way but every time I've seen him, he is up for a chat re footy, so he certainly still follows it closely.

It's floating around in a few forums / social media spots that it's Ponga.

Paps would be great though, as much as he is a gun player, he can't stay fit. Go for it Rorters!

Part of the general end of season intrigue I guess?
Unless it's part of a general roster reshuffle and blood must be spilled for the greater Rooster good?

Ok, I concede.

Latrell just posted a story on Insta with his baby and he looks to have lost some serious weight in his face.

I don’t know whether thin face will make him a better player next season, but there certainly seems to be a transformation in action.
