Past history, 9 of my GGG grandparents came here the same way, in chains , nothing to be gained by wallowing in the past..
No, the reason we can't move on and have total reconcilliation is because white Australians live in a state of denial regarding the wrongs that have been forced on black Australians.

A classic example was yesterday. The arrogance to have a national day of celebration on a day that marks such tragic events for the indigenous is gobsmacking.

Another example is when arrogant white Australians say there was no invasion. When an armed force lands on your shores uninvited, with no discussion, no agreement and no treaty and take everything, that is an invasion.

And it was illegal based on a false claim of terra nullius.

When White Australia sits down with Black Australia and says "yes, there was an invasion and theft of land without a treaty, yes it is insensitive to celebrate on that date", then we might start to have intelligent discussions and get somewhere.

It's not even close to virtue signalling, that's a silly thing to say. It is showing compassion for the black history of this country.

Tell me again why the indigenous should celebrate the start of colonialism on the 26th Jan?

So if past history doesn't matter i guess that means you'd want ANZAC day scrapped? If not you'd be a massive hypocrite.

That is ridiculous , i will leave you to your thoughts re Australia day.

That is an interesting point.
Of all the people that arrived on Jan 26th, I don't think any of them actually wanted to be there.

I know thats a general message aimed at highlighting our past but geez there’s a few untruths there.
there was sickness. There was certainly a crime rate, that’s been fairly well documented , I believe and stress comes in many forms and as a result of many things

Not arguing with the sentiment though

More to the point, those images have nothing to do with Jan 26.
Its colonialism that is being rejected and as such, no day is logically suitable to celebrate Australia Day under those circumstances and that is the end goal, I’m afraid

They had low life expectancy, high infant mortality, no waterproof dwellings, no medical aid, no food security or clean water, next time its raining in winter imagine being out in that rain with a young family, people make out life was so great but how many would put a hand up to go back to living like that..
