Australian taxpayers are set to spend $600m as the NRL gets set to expand into international waters.
Plans for an 18th team into the competition have long been in place with Papua New Guinea now reportedly confirmed as the winners of a new license.

Dud Demetriou is the man to take PNG into the NRL. So the fool believes

The $600m is political and has to do with keeping the png government and people on our side and not with China. It's not simply for an nrl team.
The real problem is that 600m won't last long so what's the long term plan for sustainability because if we have to kick a Png team out of the comp because it isn't competitive both financially and from on field results we aren't going to be popular with the people there and then that defeats the point of spending 600m to start with.

Also with very poor education levels, high crime especially outside the secured living complexs the players will live in ect no one will want to move their family over there so either the player will have to be separated from his kids from November to September or they will only attract players without families.

PNG is Rugby League mad.
It makes sense to give them a team....
However, I don't see them as being financially viable in the long run.
