Hey everyone,

As the discussion begins to shift towards 2025, it's a good time for this.

This is part of a little bit of an update we are undertaking on the Pride, new threads for all the main topics. These will all work similar to the old threads, but just updated for 2025, and we will make a new one each year from now on. Just makes things easier to navigate historically moving forward.

Please discontinue using the old thread, and post here if you can.

Hopefully we don't have to use this thread anywhere near as much as we did in 2024. I really, really hope that's the case anyway.

I read an interesting snippet from Yeo about Ivan Cleary's approach to body language.

Supposedly no one is allowed to put their hands on their knees/crouch down during a game, as that is showing negative body language.

Got me thinking about our body language last year and what Bennett/Elkin would think of it.

I think our body language was really poor, which I think had a contributing factor to our losses. The Manly game in Vegas is a great example of it.

So did my under 16’s baseball coach. :) I’d have thought this is pretty common in all elite coaching setups? If not, it should be. Run everywhere, no hands on hips, never sit, take a knee, etc. Always promote an air of being up and ready to go (even when you aren’t).

I remember Madge had this approach when he arrived.

Told this story before but I remember an early training session he made the boys do an extra long distance run in sweltering heat because a Burgess twin brushed up against a corner post on one of the laps.

Was all about finishing strong, not taking shortcuts, running through the line and body language.

I know he works hard, but Cam down on his haunches always annoys me. I think it sends the wrong message to the opposition and the players around him.

All true.

I contrast that with our body language last year in particular with a number of players, including Capt Cam regularly bent over gasping for breath.

I guess I was trying to underline the shit show that was the preparation for season '24, and the seeming lack of attention to details like this.

Agree, just thinking of my body language etc. at times: head down; head in my hands; whacking my forehead; kicking the chair in front; throwing my hands in the air; moaning; groaning; booing (the ref); ...

At least I always stayed to the bell.

I wonder what message the JD approach in allowing players to bring pets to a training session sent to the group as a whole. Somehow I can’t see Wayne continuing that tradition.

I’d be fascinated to know what Elkin and Bennett think about last year’s injury woes.

WBs policy I hope is in his DNA ...

That's a good point. A reasonable portion of our fans were more animated and showed more energy for the full 80 mins than some of our team. And the fans don't train for this in the pre-season.
