He's soooooo misunderstood.

Not really, I don’t see many people as “leftist” what does that even mean, most of the rank & file that would vote for Harris probably aren’t all that political & care about the socio political divide, lots are immigrants who just want a better life, they may also be conservative but are alienated by the type of rhetoric that comes from Trump & his supporters
The supporters of trump that are quite right & riled up by what trump says like deporting the illegals are sucked in by a showman
The American economy has flourished off the back of undocumented migrants for centuries, if he wants to reinvigorate the manufacturing industry he better leave some in the country because they’re the only ones who’ll work for peanuts
If they are there illegally then what is wrong with deporting them?
.

Nothing much other than it would be the complete opposite to what America has done for hundreds of years

America effectively used undocumented migrants across its southern borders as a cheap form of Labor, akin to slavery for hundreds of years
Central & South American migrants have worked for peanuts in jobs others wouldn’t do, America & other western nations wouldn’t have been able to thrive in industries like manufacturing & agriculture otherwise, even Australia did it with cane cutters from the South Sea Islands
So I’m just stating the obvious, Trump says he’s going to deport them all & also reinvigorate manufacturing, I don’t think he can have both

Creating fear through peoples xenophobia is one of the oldest political tricks around

We clearly move in different circles. Only last week at a bbq about a dozen of them out of 15 were having a meltdown about Trump.
After questioning they stated they was clueless about American politics and never paid an attention to it. Until now🥴

Asked about policy, they couldn’t answer aside from telling me Trump was Orange, had horrible hair, they hated the apprentice tv show, he told them to drink bleach (a lie) is a threat to democracy( laughable) will start ww3 ( really? Look around😆)

Bottom line is everything you said about trump supporters applies to the antI trump mob. Very few people are nuanced enough to actually discuss policy and their impacts

Well like I said, by any metric, he’s not a nice bloke, I’ve seen enough Australian politics & elections to realise that anyone with his rap sheet wouldn’t still be in politics, he’d be unelectable, although how I’m starting to wonder, these young kids now are desensitised to the political process & perhaps see American politics as the yardstick & all quite normal, which asks the question, could a populist, a bit radical, personality like Trump emerge here, we’ve largely rejected Hanson, Palmer, Bernardi etc but I guess it’s possible

As for policy why are Australians becoming so invested in what is largely domestic policy? Other than what I said, it’s just Trumps general ideology
Why do Australians get so invested in deporting Mexicans? We shouldn’t care, but many do, they’re cheering on Trumps perceived strong arm tactics
Abortion? That’s their internal politics
Foreign policy hasn’t been discussed massively other than Trump telling everyone he’d stop all these wars
Hasn’t said how, he’s just sprouted a whole heap of rhetorical pap, I don’t even think a lot of his heartland supporters know where Palestine is or what’s happening in Ukraine
But yet they cheer Trump, as do their ideological cousins in Australia & other countries, it’s a strange phenomenon

Were they housing illegals in plush hotels while their own citizens slept on the streets previously?
.

Who knows? Probably, plush? Subjective I suppose
But like I said, I’m not interested in their internal politics, I’m not a fan of either side, I’m not taking an ideological stance other than I support peoples human rights with regards immigration & gender & sexual identity, race etc
I’m sure the republicans are going to push an anti immigration stance. But like I’ve said, they’ve been pouring across the border for centuries, i imagine that with the global issues going on that it’s increased, from what I understand these people risk life & limb crossing the Darién Gap, and international law would suggest they be treated humanely , the same thing has been happening all over Europe & right wing, conservative voices have been sprouting an identical rhetoric there

Well, yes it is partly the trump ideology buts its also those gripped, totally, by trump derangement who have opposed him when knowing zero about politics or policy.
Those people are also commenting on an election they have no control over and have become consumed over it…..that is also odd

well yes, When I was paying upwards of $600 a night in NYC last year I spent a lot of time stepping around or over the illegals all while having to avoid stepping in their excrement which was happily dumped on the footpath😰

How do you know who’s illegal or not?

Why would you label it “Trump derangement” ? Thsts pure hyperbole
I’ve stated that by Australian political standards & by human standards it’s amazing he’s still probably going to be the president again
I think you’re mistaking being utterly astounded even th “derangement”
Most fair thinking people from western democracies are in shock that he’s eligible & popular

So does that mean you never address a problem? That’s a very odd dismissal

There was no problem, it made America a superpower
Then when manufacturing was even too expensive for America with their cheap illegal Labor market people want to get rid of them
I really think they’re being unduly demonised to an extent, xenophobia is a very powerful political tool
Lot of people will have to mow their own lawn all of a sudden

But you, effectively, call his supporters the same thing but that’s okay is it?

I haven’t called them anything
I’m still trying to work out what people see in him
I think it’s a case of shock politics, upending the Apple cart, taking care of “the woke” protecting their guns etc
I don’t see any common ground with the stereotypical trump supporter but I cant be arsed getting angry at them, I laughingly shake my head
