2023 State of Origin

On a side note, I'd say that the lowlight of the night was that ad involving the 'ref' and the 'banker'.
repeated ad nauseam.

The lowlight for me was when they did a split screen DURING play and ran a car ad.

Qld made a mini break while they were extolling the virtues of some ute or other.

At least Fox Sports don't **** around with the actual game like nine do.

It's embarrassing.

With about 2 mins of thought, something like:

1. Dylan Edwards
2. Brian To'o
3. Latrell Mitchell
4. Campbell Graham
5. Josh Addo-Carr
6. Cody Walker
7. Nathan Cleary
8. Junior Paulo
9. Damien Cook
10. Payne Haas
11. Liam Martin
12. Cameron Murray
13. Isaah Yeo

14. Api Koroisau
15. Tyson Frizell
16. Daniel Saifiti
17. Stefano Utoikamanu
I'd change Turbo for Edwards. I think with a nice break Turbo could come back full of running and fullback is his possie. Love Edwards but still think Turbo off Cody and Latrell would have more impact. I'd also have Murray at lock and Yeo on the bench. No need for Koroisau with Cook playing 80 so bring Hudson Young back and give him a short stint off the bench.

....and a knowledgeable coach instead of a goose would be helpful as well. He thought he was being clever with his selections and was made to look like a goose. Slater has it all over him. In fact the whole Qld set-up is just far superior to the circus NSW continually dish up!
Slater had:

Fullback from Brisbane
5/8 from Melb
half from Manly
Nine from Melb.

Shat all over our spine...I mean they were significantly better, even though our forwards were restricting their ability to make make metres.

Fittler had:

A woefully over the hill / out of form fullback
A woefully never was 5/8
A half who can't seem to put his stamp on origin despite being the best half in the comp.
a 9 who was woefully out of form.

A right centre who can't run.

He can't coach. Hasn't been able to coach and won't ever be able to coach.

Honestly NSW has been stuck in groundhog day for the last 15 years at least.

Teddy isn't out of form. Teddy is done. If I were NSW I'd be looking for a minor niggling injury for him to have that will rub him out of the last two games without the embarrassment of just no longer picking him. He had the opportunity to stop four of QLD's try's last night and came up with thin air on each occasion. On top of that, his 4th tackle hit ups that end with him falling on his back just bring the NSW attack to a screaming halt every time. Everyone knows that he is never going to pass the ball and it seems he can't beat a man anymore so it's time for Teddy to go out to pasture. He is absolutely zero threat. Edwards or even Gutherson would do a better job.

Cleary has next game to do something or he needs to be dropped. He may be the best half back in NSW but he doesn't show it at Origin level and at the very least I think he needs to learn that his spot in the team isn't guaranteed. At club level he digs into the line and threatens the line and often goes straight through it. At Origin level he just sits back and shuffles the ball along. The only thing he provides at this level is a decent kicking game.

TPJ and Young need to go. Should be Keaon and either Leniu or Tevita Tatola to come in to the side.

Turbo should not be picked again until he is back to 100%. I don't know that he will ever be back there but picking him for Origin in his current state is doing him no favors. Latrell will take that spot for game two.

Hynes should be picked at 6 or not at all. We need either another forward on the bench or at least a genuine utility. If you go utility then Burton probably gives you the best coverage. Can play any position in the backline and also fill in as a half. In a way, NSW were lucky that Turbo didn't go down earlier. 10 minutes of Hynes at centre changed the game. 30 or 40 minutes of him there would've been an out and out catastrophe.

I follow the State side with most Souths players.
As neither Cam or Arrow were in the starting side , I was hoping for a
Old win versus the NSW Panthers.

enjoyed the night.

Anyway maybe Fittler needs to consider more Panther or Rooster players when he picks his next team.

Collins is a plodder with hands like flippers but showed his class last night against the pinball wizard!!

The Pinball Wizard is even on the nose on the Chookpen, some posts on his game last night:

hate to say this, but Teddy...

Is a hog.
He is killing all backline moves.
and
Struggles to break a tackle lately Looks a pale shadow of his former self.
and
I think this will be his last series.
and
Edwards is the better player these days.
and
The concerning part has been his defensive efforts tonight, the missed tackle on Cobbo, the slip for the Tabuai-Fidow try and then being out jumped by a prop forward on his own line.
These are as much about effort and composure as they are talent or form.
As a captain of the Roosters and Blues this is probably the most concerning part of his game at the moment.
and
Never seen a bloke fall off a cliff as badly as this before. Carried his club from right into origin and got absolutely spanked. ****ing woeful.
Freddy is gonna drop him I bet. That egotistical **** loves a scapegoat and needs to do something to keep his cushy gig.
and
Agree with the sentiments - he's always been a big ball hog, but it's really impacting those around now with his loss in speed and zippiness. Hard conversations need to be had with him on evolving his attacking game to give opportunities to those around him.
and
Was thinking the same all thru the game.
Dead set hopeless Hog Has-been.
Dylan Edwards is the game best fullback. Teddy needs to think about retiring.
and
Teddy is well past his best. He has been ordinary for some time now and should never play origin again.
and
Sorry, Tedesco ain't got what it takes anymore. Being stood up and falling over trying to turn after the Hammer was shameful.
Like Freddy at the nines that year, his mind knows what he wants to do but his body can't do it anymore.
and
Nah teddy was shocking tonight. He just loves to run sideways and cramp the players around him.
What has me concerned is we crumbled at the media pressure applied on us over re-signing teddy, yes he is our captain but no one is bigger then the club and we must always plan ahead…
and
His run metres are a reflection of how many times he hogged the ball instead of organising his outside backs. They all got a cold around him
Stats don't tell you everything and watching the game you could see Walsh fitting in much better with his own team
And that last try was very much Teddy's fault. Whose other fault was it? Collins for outleaping him? You could say others didn't get back quickly enough but clutching at straws if you think his teammates were more to blame. Teddy practices for those moments.

Who would people bring to replace Fittler? NSW feel a bit like the Tigers of State of Origin. Whatever we do with our choice of Coach it doesn’t seem to work.

That being said I’m totally done with Freddy.

100% that’s why I posted it.

If anyone didn’t watch the game and simply viewed these stats you’d say Teddy had a super game and in comparison was the stronger of the 2 fullbacks.

How wrong can these stats be - arguably his worse rugby league game ever.
It’s funny because I know a lot of us have called Teddy out for the last few years

But when I said at work that Edwards should be fullback and Teddy is the new Gallen two of my crew were shocked

Ones a Penrith supporter who played Reggie’s at Newtown the other played Reggie’s at the Knights, so both handy footballers who generally know their footy

About 30 minutes in and the texts started saying ‘I see what u mean’ then he ran for himself attacking the line on the fourth, against 12 men and it was ‘He’s gotta go’

To those of you who actually give an excrement about NSW SOO I ask why?

it‘s smothered with hypocrisy, bias, nepotism to say the least.

It’s an absolute farce.

I do agree with you on Cleary though. They surround him with his teammates to help him and he still can't produce points at this level.
QLD are different to your normal NRL team as they scramble relentlessly

Penrith build their atrack on kicking deep, chasing hard, grinding you into a standstill, then Ladyboy floats across looking for tired defenders not doing their job or pushing through on a Cleary kick

Penrith like NSW don’t have a ball player in their spine

Cleary isn’t a creator, he gets you into field position, Ladyboy is an energy player and Teddy is a hog. So where do the points come from

Either your 7,6 or 1 need to have a passing game. Only the NSW 9 has any creativity

The real question is if even his Roosters fans see it pretty clearly will Fittler actually bite the bullet and do the necessary ?. It’s more a case of putting the bloke out of his misery and working out an exit strategy that allows him to go with a bit of dignity.
I like the suggested idea of a ‘manufactured niggling injury’ to replace him as seamlessly as possible. Goodness knows Fittler must surely recognise that he’s looking over the cliff himself.
I predicted weeks ago that Teddy shouldn’t be selected and even if he was the Blues would cut him after the first loss…..it’s panning out that way.

Will only get dropped once we lose the series

Next year I’m guessing new coach and new spine. Apart from API and Cleary
