Match Discussion Round 9: Rabbitohs v Panthers

I think you have to give Dion a crack in order to keep our 1-5 as legit as possible. Dion has been in the NRL system for 2-3 years now, played a season and a half of Cup and been successful.

Don’t want to break the kid but he is where he is for a reason, may as well give him a go and run:

Latrell
Thompson
Tass
Wighton
AJ
Dion
Walker
He literally has to play. We only have 6 available outside backs, and he's one of them.

Our only other option is Chee Kam and Murray in the centres again.

And with Host's farcical suspension (which we won't challenge because we're soft), we'll need backrowers.

Braidon Burns wouldve got a run this week if he hadnt headed to North QLD. Sounds like Christenan or Kaho could have a Bradbury moment too.

We'll need special dispensation from the NRL to play any of those guys this week (which we'd have to get).

Did Burns go to the Blackhawks or something?

Our ball handling improved, can't remember too many where we dropped it cold only Cody and Wighton putting a couple over the sideline.

Certainly sign of improvement, loss of Gray and Hawkins meant we were never going to win the game.

See what happens to the Panther's player for the hip drop, Gray should go to 7 when he returns.
Thompson dropped one right on his chest….

Too much is being made of the 20m restart try.

The kick held up and took a while to cross the dead ball. The kick-chase increased its speed as it looked as though the ball was going to hold up. It takes a final bounce dead and Edwards is ready for it with that sprint. The Souths kick-chase, predominantly middle forwards, are in the in-goal by this stage. They're not going to turn and outrun Edwards. Any other full back apart from Paps, and that probably doesn't happen.

The big difference again is ability. Souths are literally playing the 20-30th men in the roster. The Penrith back 5 ran big metres as they always do. And it helps them kick off their sets to win the territory battle as they always do. Souths don't have that punch. It makes a huge difference over the course of a match.
where were the wingers ?

I agree - it was also a kick that shouldve gone into the corner and not back across the middle of the field.

Just watched the replay again and it really was a gutsy, vastly improved performance. To lose your fullback and halfback during the game on top of the amount of injuries before the game started was heroic.

Some of the Panthers tries were just assey or not tries at all, Gee was all over the place in this game.

The thing that annoys me the most are the commentators who never bring up about how many players are unavailable or how we lost 2 before halftime making a major reshuffle in the whole team. Imagine if it was the Roosters or Broncos who went through the same reshuffle the commentators would be going on and on about how brave they are and how the result has been affected by the injuries.

Gray really impressed me with his toughness as well, you could tell he was badly injured but he kept turning up to make tackles and to snuff out raids. The young fella has a big future.

Arrow just a warrior, we have really missed him but time to rest him get his surgery done and rehabbed by NEW staff ready for next year.

Fair point but when that stuff is brought up here it’s shouted down.
Final score is all that matters not the circumstances that lead to it

The biggest concern of that and it was the same the previous week against the Storm was the lack of effort in the chase.

So where are we for next week in fielding 17 if AJ is out?

Mitchell, Thompson, Chee Kam, Wighton, Tass, Teaupa, Walker, Moale, Cook, Arrow, Murray, Koloamatangi, Duncan, Burgess, Keppie, Havili, Mamouzelos

That’s literally everyone in the 34 that’s available right?

And then 18-21 will be Christiensen, Kaho, Le Blanc and B Gray or similar?

Le Blanc is on a development contract. That is unless someone else has been upgraded. Hopefully we make moves to sign someone. I can’t think of anyone else that will return.

From what’s available it’s hard to argue the side you named.

Yep that's literally everyone we can pick without special dispensation from the NRL to choose outside our Top 30/Dev Contracts (of which they're all A graders anyway)

If it wasnt Orthodox Easter on Sunday I’d be keenly at training just to see what they come up with as a 17!
