Match Discussion Round 20: Rabbitohs v Tigers

People were expecting us to win easy.

But was our side as strong as people make out

Basically reserve grade back line.

Then you take into account Cook at to move to centre early.

Back row of Duncan and Chee kam.

Starting props moale and Keppie.

They try and make out we had a star studded side but I doubt anyone actually rates most of those players, even some of our own fans don't rate a lot of players I just mentioned.

only big name players u could say were Cody, Wighton and Koloa. Cook would get thrown in there as well.

All playing out of their normal positions.

It was a spare parts footy side if we being honest
I agree, in fact when I looked at the respective teams on Tuesday night I couldn’t see where we had a clear edge. We need to realise that we’re right down into our depth at the moment and will be for most of the remaining 7 games. If that team manages to crack a spot in the 8 it will be a monumental achievement.
The thing is we have good reason to look forward to the starting team in 2025 with the addition of Latrell, Stretch, Munro, Tatola, Murray, Arrow et al. Throw in the new recruits and we should have a much better start with Wayne steering the ship. Our depth will be bolstered by the players currently holding down those spots gaining NRL experience for the remainder of 2024.

No doubt our side is fairly low on genuine quality at the moment.

A few key players holding the fort, and a couple of fringe guys doing a job is the difference between where we are and the spoon.

And that’s really only good for wins against sides outside the 8. Dogs and Sea Eagles are our only top 8 scalps to date? And Dogs weren’t in there when we beat them, and Manly (like us) were severely under strength.

It is what it is. With no Murray, Latrell, Graham, Tatola, Arrow, or halfback - spirited and bottom 8 competitive is likely our ceiling.

We have nearly half our team promoted from reserves and all of them are playing well above their level. The team attitude and intensity has also increased 10 fold since the coaching issues were finalised. Had this not been sorted out when it was we would be headed for the spoon. Now, while I am enjoying beating up on the bottom 8 sides, I still think there is a small chance of spot 8 this season.

A poster on the Warren reckons they have on good authority that Moale mins were lower yesterday as he had the flu.

Yes.... agree with all that.

But that doesn't absolve the poor defensive attitude.

That does make sense, but I’m sure he had the flu a few weeks back when we were up in QLD.

We defended like a reserve grade side tbh.

Lower grade games normally more about attack than defence

This is one of those game where the most important thing was getting the 2 points. Hard to see how we beat any of the top 4 sides right now.

Letting in 28 points against any of those top 4 sides we won’t get near them.

I know we will be helped by the return of Cam and possibly Latrell.

I would have been happier with a poor win where our defence was on.

It’s funny in a game where we scored 42 points that you talk about our attack being off as well. That was a game where if on we score well over 50.

I thought our last 20 was much better than the rest of the game as well.

It’s funny enough seeing Tigers fans bagging Jye Gray for staying down. But to see a former player going on about it is next level.

Who?

People seem to be unable to differentiate between being in pain and being unable to play on.

Gray was clearly in pain when it happened, and played past it. He's not that good an actor.
