Match Discussion Round 20: Rabbitohs v Tigers

I'm glad we won.

Not glad we let 28 points in, I thought we slacked off at times thinking we'd just motor on.

What has happened to our defence from that 5 game winning streak?
True... but 6 from 7 is a fantastic effort any way you cut it !!!

Yooohooooo!!! It certainly wasn't pretty, and it wasn't the performance we were all hoping for, but it was an entertaining game, and a win, nonetheless. As they say, a win's a win and we'll certainly take it.

I am a little disappointed in the boys performance, we have really taken a step backwards in the last couple of weeks, especially the defence. The Tigers were really good. They were desperate and certainly stood up and stuck it to us, but I think if we were at our best, or at least at the level we were during our winning streak, we still put the cleaners through them. The lads were sadly not at that level.

Defence was absolute dogshit, let's be honest. Our first contact wasn't where it needed to be and our physicality was down. I shudder when looking at the missed tackle count from yesterday. On top of this, I thought our linespeed was back to being near non-existent and this allowed the Tigers to get an easy roll on and pour through our middle in nearly every set, most of them anyway. Then some of the reads we came up with were just poor. But it comes down to attitude for mine. The boys simply weren't in the right headspace and didn't want to make their tackles the way they have been. They didn't have that defensive mindset which was disappointing. Concedeing 28 points against the friggin Tigers is unacceptable. There's no way to sugarcoat it, the defence was really poor.

We're lucky that our attack fired the way it did. Really lucky. No issues with anything we did with the ball, it looked scintillating at times. Some amazing tries out there! Great to watch and all our big gun attacking players fired. This was all built on the back of a very high completion rate where we barely made any errors, so that's pretty pleasing.

So really, it was just one of those rollercoaster games where you have to win in a shootout. Defence goes out the window, and it's just all-out attack. Thankfully, we were amazing in that area, and thankfully everyone stood up and got the job done when they needed to.

Extremely happy to get the win and I'm celebrating that one!!! Yoooohoooooooo!!! We march on!

Glory, Glory.

Well according to quite a number Pete will provide much better value than what we get for Damien right now. I’m not so sure anyway I’m willing to see how he goes under Wayne we will see. Wayne could do wonders for his game who knows. Anyway that’s for Wayne to worry about.

Maybe if Pete doesn’t work out Humphreys will play 9 and Pete in the 14 we will see. Pete is still young so we will see. His try today was good. In defence I’m still not fully convinced either. He did have some good darts out of dummy half today though so credit for that think he made 75 metres.

Just find it funny that those who criticise Damien like the world is ending for going wrong way in attack or throwing silly crash balls or throwing a poor pass do not critcise Pete at all when he does exactly the same thing and he did at times today.

And in defence I know Damien isn’t what he was in the middle but he’s still a good defender. Pete at times is only just hanging on in the tackle and struggles at times to put them down. I like Pete I want him to succeed but this is also a work on for him. I’m sure he knows it too.
Every time I see an opposition player off load a ball I look for Cook in the tackle and mostly he is, some of his arm grabs are ordinary for a former Australian and state rep but he's not the only one at times.

I've been someone who was looking forward to see how he develops and confident that he would become a good player.
Watching him yesterday I thought he tries to do it all himself sometimes. Lots of dummies and trying to cut through that go nowhere.
In the second half, in the last 20 minutes maybe closer to the end, our backline was set to the left and he went himself on the right.
And when we got a penalty late in the game when a Wests player hit Cody in the leg when trying to charge down a kick, it was a rushed kick because Pete's pass from dummy half was late and high, giving Cody no time.
So, on yesterday's performance, he needs to improve, definitely.

Very scrappy game. Good thing we weren't playing Storm. Way too many easy tries let in. High point for me was Cooks goal kicking and Milne offloads. We could have scored a couple more times and so could have the Tigers, which would be an 80+ points game. Crazy. Scrappy but entertaining. We got the 2 points so Nuff Said.

People were expecting us to win easy.

But was our side as strong as people make out

1.Gray
2.
3.milne
4.Kennar
5.Gagai

Basically reserve grade back line.

Then you take into account Cook at to move to centre early.

Back row of Duncan and Chee kam.

Starting props moale and Keppie.

They try and make out we had a star studded side but I doubt anyone actually rates most of those players, even some of our own fans don't rate a lot of players I just mentioned.

only big name players u could say were Cody, Wighton and Koloa. Cook would get thrown in there as well.

All playing out of their normal positions.

It was a spare parts footy side if we being honest

Happy for any win no matter how it comes at this time
But gee, I am glad we werent playing against any other team but the Tigers with that effort

I think it was more a case of how bad the Tigers have been. Coming into our game they had 40 points or more put on them in 5 of their past 7 games at an average of 38 ppg.

And we scored over 40 on them still.

Only 2 weeks ago storm beat tigers 40 to 28

Tigers scored 5 tries as well.
