Yeah, I think he can be an elite fullback. And a point of difference occasionally deputising in situations at first receiver, second receiver and jumping out of dummy half. A true roaming license from the back.
Failing that, the second option would be to see how he handles the physicality of defending in the line in the halves. I have graver concerns re: his ability to do that.
Not that he can’t, just that I believe he can have the same impact at 1 and avoid the target on his back in defence.
If Sam Walker was an option at fullback (more physicality in his running game), then I also think that would be better for him. It isn’t an option though.
He’s a good enough talent to go down the path of testing him at 1 and then 6/7.
I do agree we should recruit another elite prospect spine position player to develop in tandem. Walker is old. Wighton is getting old. Jye isn’t a sure thing. Hedge your bets and deal.
