2024 International Footy

Maybe Havili starts at 9 for south’s in the opening exchanges and Humfreys off the bench
Havili has those games in him every now and then. But not sure about week in week out though.

International Rugby League is alive and kicking and more important than Origin in my opinion. More needs to be done to elevate this to the pinnacle of our game as it used to be. Origin should be the stepping stone to wearing the Australian jersey. They should lift the pay rate to a higher level when a player puts on the green and gold.

Tonight shows that the international game just needs more games against well-matched countries (talent wise).

But these sorts of round robin tournaments should be saved for the World Cup when a greater amount of time can be dedicated to pool stages and finals.

Instead of this at year’s end, give me a mid season break each year and a 3 games series for each of QLD v NSW, NZ v Tonga, Samoa v England, PNG v Fiji (or similar pairings).

Let the rivalries build over time and elevate into the WC every 4 years.

Would also allow the NRL Grand Final to be the end of the football season each year too (except in WC years). Which I think feels right.

I still feel Test matches need to be played between all teams regardless of scorelines. Fans need a chance to see all players in action and players in those lesser teams need the experience of playing against the very best. It all comes down to money and promotion. Get those two aspects right and the game internationally will improve. Mid season games would be a step in the right direction.
