2024 International Footy

Havili coming back on makes a huge difference getting the forwards to run onto the ball.
Yes, I liked how he took a few steps forward and then passed earning first receiver more metres and momentum to team.

Tonight shows that the international game just needs more games against well-matched countries (talent wise).

But these sorts of round robin tournaments should be saved for the World Cup when a greater amount of time can be dedicated to pool stages and finals.

Instead of this at year’s end, give me a mid season break each year and a 3 games series for each of QLD v NSW, NZ v Tonga, Samoa v England, PNG v Fiji (or similar pairings).

Let the rivalries build over time and elevate into the WC every 4 years.

Would also allow the NRL Grand Final to be the end of the football season each year too (except in WC years). Which I think feels right.
Yep. Agreed.

I’ve been saying something similar for ages.

3 stand alone weekends, with 6 games:
NSW v QLD
Eng/NZ v Tonga/Samoa (the games could rotate each year)
PNG/Cook Islands v France/Fiji (see above)
Women’s SOO

You could even have a “magic round” concept for one of the weeks. Every game played at the same stadium culminating with SOO on the Sunday night.

Pump the shit out of it in promos and it’ll be a success.

What a freaking game man!!!! I was there last night and it was simply incredible! Not just the awesome game, with the Kiwis coming back from 24-0 down, but the atmosphere was actually electric! I have never experienced anything like that in my life. The passion, noise and respect from the Tongan fans was mind-blowing, it really was.

It was so good that even when the Kiwis were being pumped, I still had a smile on my face when Tonga scored because of their fans. I hope it came through on the TV.

Seriously, you have to get yourself to a Kiwis vs Tonga game in Auckland sometime in your life.

A bit gutted about the result, but Tonga deserved it. Kiwis f**ked it in that first half and then they should have taken a field goal earlier at the end.

Oh well, at least Liva starred!

Really enjoyed being there, it's an amazing showcase of Rugby League.

It came through loud and clear on the TV so it must have been going off at the game.

Someone mentioned the competing choirs in the stands…sounded wonderful.

I think this final could be closer than expected. Australia are going to seriously miss having Cam out there. He has been a rock in defence and in my opinion, one of, if not, the best player on the field in both games so far.

Defence will be everything, Australia need to weather the storm & come home with a wet sail
Tongas best bet might be trying to leave a bit in the tank, try to keep their energy levels on an even keel & not gas towards the end of games like they have

For International Rugby I hope Tonga gets up, all this talk about a new team in Perth, NZ or PNG, better off having a pacific island team based in Tonga or Samoa.

Egg on face for me when I said it just boils down to oz v nz unless draw has them meeting in semi.
Fantastic win by Tonga and I really hope for a tense close final even though I think oz has too much strike power.
And I think Taumololo has proved many critics wrong ... me included... finished season well with Cowboys and a real inspiration for Tonga. Good to see a comeback eh?

I think Australia will win.

But it’d be great for the international game if Tonga somehow got up.

And before my own personal woke police bursts an artery, I’ll be cheering for an Australian victory…but won’t be too upset if Tonga win.

I've been in the UK for 20 years and what I miss most is watching the Rabbitohs. There's not even any Rugby League in London. My girlfriend was really excited because she bought me tickets to see the England vs Australia Rugby game today. She said "You like Rugby right?" I didn't have the heart to tell her there is a difference between League and Union and just went to the game anyway. It turned out to be quite fun. It was at Twickenham which is a great ground. The atmosphere was fun and the game turned out to not just be penalty kicks and collapsing scrums. There were lots of tries and lots of running Rugby. It is becoming more like League. And it was kinda nice seeing Australia win in penalty time. :) It won't replace the Rabbitohs but it helped a little today.
