2023 State of Origin

Qld ripe for the picking. If I’m Cody, I’d be excited by the challenge. No doubt Latrell plays outside him if Cody gets picked.

Only real challenge will be getting the ball off Cleary and Tedesco.

The calls for an opportunity for ‘redemption’ have started (TPJ). No doubt we will hear the ‘we only just lost’ calls again. Straight from the Daley playbook.

So, you were wondering why Hynes got only 12 minutes:

“Having someone versatile there, you’re going to wait for an outside back to get injured and it happened to be Tom,” Fittler said.

I think we might see Hynes at 5/8 for SOO2.
I’m not sure he is the answer. Hasn’t really been a stand out in big games. Was a poor miss by him on Munster that lead to the try that put them in front.
I’d bring Edwards in for Chrichton and leave Latrell at left centre
Edwards would be an upgrade on what Teddy is producing at the moment. But he isn’t really known for setting up his outside men like Latrell does.

His positional play though is exceptional.
I’d be tempted to give Tats a run off the bench
For me I think someone like Klemmer. He has been playing well for the Tigers. Big body and has that intimidating factor. Should have been there before TPJ.

Oh by the way I missed the opening few minutes so I don't know who the main commentator was. I have Foxtel so I don't watch Channel 9. Is he the usual Channel 9 commentator?

Whoever he is, he is one of the worst commentators I have heard. Sounded like any joy he got out of the game was totally faked.

He may as well went with the 2 hooker system if that’s his line of thinking.

Matt Thompson. He is one of two that they use.

Hell yea Queensland!! What a win! That is seriously one on the great Origin wins of all time. NSW looked to have wrapped it up when it went to 18-16, and with 12 men and all the injuries the Maroons had, they really should have gone on with it. Everyone jokes about 'the Queensland spirit,' but last night is a perfect example of why it's actually a thing. With 12 men they score two of the great Origin tries, amazing! Especially that one to the Hammer.

For the Blues, it seems the knives are out today and rightly so. A lot of questions need to be asked. They got a lot of selections wrong, and it showed. Despite dominating field position, their attack was awful. The Penrith connection was shit apart from one try. Hahahaha, good to see.

I'd been saying to a few workmates and friends yesterday that this Origin opener will be one of the most interesting openers ever. And, I think interesting is probably the best way to describe it.

What a game! It was tit for tatt for most of it and I really enjoyed it. Gripping contest. I do concede the game could have been better though. Still thought it was a great game, but I wouldn't call it one of those 'classic Origin's.' Far too over-officiated by Klien, he refed it like and NRL game rather than an Origin. I lost count of the number of times I said, "that isn't a penalty in Origin." And then that sin bin was just an absolute joke. Mean game but that would be my only criticism.

I've been thinking all along that whoever won Game 1 would go on to win the series, and I'll stand by that. Going to be extremely tough for NSW to win in Game 2 at Suncorp but we'll see. Can't wait!

In my view, a few things about Origin in no particular order-

Origin means way more to QLD than NSW

Trouble with NSW is the selection of the side is based way too much around club politics.

QLD select their side based on who’s best for each role and not on club politics.

Irrespective of what NSW tells people they don’t give a shit, QLD, it’s everything and more important than club football.

NSW are arrogant QLD are passionate.

I know I’ve kind of doubled my points a bit but those points underline this series every year.

Yeah teddy slid for a 100 of those
...and refuses to pass the ball let alone try to set up an outside man. He‘s a ball hog and thinks it’s up to him alone to take on the defence. We just can’t afford that sort of selfishness. Honestly he’s well past it, the way Hammer just ran round him like he wasn’t there was an embarrassment. I guess the alternative would be another bloody Penrith player though.
The good news is that Cam and Jai appeared to have come through Ok.

A complete pain in the arse. Most annoying commentator, apart from Dan Ginnane
