Latest Rumours

Patrick Herbert anyone? Is coming of a knee recon and still 6 or so weeks away but would come cheap, is experienced and is one of those brutal outside defenders that make ball players take a peek.

We could do with some experienced depth out wide just in case.

Opinions?
Definitely. I was actually talking this bloke up as someone we should have been looking at before last season from memory. He'd go straight into our starting side at either centre or wing in my opinion.

Not a chance he'd make our 17. He's been let go by the Titans for a reason.
Wing for Thompson. Centre for Tass . He's a better option than both of those two and would comfortably make our 17.

You could debate Thompson, but in no way, shape or form is he better than Isaiah Tass.

As I said, he's being let go by the Titans for a reason.

Anyway the Titans have just replaced him with Ken Maumalo - now that is someone who would've looked right at home on our right wing!

I wouldn't swap out Tass with the way he's been performing but Thompson has not cemented his spot as yet although has been going okay. Certainly, he'd be a great depth player should injuries strike in the backs because our depth there is all rookies. Good rookies but rookies nonetheless.

DT reporting Suaali is going to Rugby 2025 good I hope the bastard goes and doesn’t come back!

Well played Souths!

Report: Rugby Australia set for stunning $1.6m Suaalii coup... but one ‘fear’ remains

The Roosters — and NRL by extension — are set to be dealt a massive blow with rising star Joseph Suaalii on the verge of signing a $1.6 million deal with Rugby Australia.

That is according to The Daily Telegraph, who broke the news of Suaalii’s expected exit on Friday afternoon, with the 19-year-old set to switch codes from 2025 onwards.

Danny Weidler of Nine News also reported on Friday that RA insiders had told him they are “close” to signing Suaalii for 2025, although added the deal is not “done” yet.

“They still fear a last minute play from Nick Politis,” he added.

The report from The Telegraph claimed that the chance to play in a historic series against the British & Irish Lions was a “key driver” for Suaalii in the decision.

The money being offered was also a factor given no NRL teams could match the cash being splashed by RA.

The length and terms of the deal are yet to be confirmed, according to The Telegraph.

It comes after veteran rugby league reporter Andrew Webster said on Wednesday that he was sensing from speaking to Roosters officials that the club was resigned to losing Suaalii.

“I got a call from our chief rugby reporter Georgina Robinson, and she said that there has been talk everywhere of a deal being all but done from 25’ onwards for Joseph Suaalii to go to the Wallabies,” Webster told SEN 1170’s ‘The Run Home’ on Thursday.

“That’s when the British and Irish Lions will be out here, and they’ve obviously got the World Cup here in Australia in 2027.

“I have to say when I spoke to the Roosters to follow up… there was a bit of sort of quiet resignation that it may be the case.

“Nothing has been said to them about it, they’re dealing with Isaac Moses (Suaalii’s agent) who is a very tricky manager to deal with.

“There’s just sort of a sense that it may be the case, I don’t know if it’s necessarily the right thing for Suaalii.”

Suaalii would follow former NRL stars, including Israel Folau and Sonny Bill Williams, in making the switch to rugby.
It also leaves the Roosters with a decision to make at fullback, with James Tedesco extending earlier in the year until the end of the 2024 season. Moving Joey Manu from the centres could be another option.

It was crazy that players were signing one year out, but two years?? Will Politis just sit back and take it?

$1.6 million for a one year contract based on potential 😲. I'm sure the current rugby players will be ecstatic...

**** me drunk I’m sick to death of hearing about this overrated douchebag
Well Shauno, let's hope the feathered ones tell him to go to RU in Oct as they do not want to waste time and energy on someone who doesn't want to be there.

If this does happen it will further justify the decision by Souths not to give in to his year by year clause.
Was always going to happen and certainly does justify Souths decision not to accept such a ridiculous clause in an overly inflated contract.
