I've got a new rash

It wont change, the queens birthday is the 21st April the holiday is the 31st October and is gazetted to stay the same in 2023.
For 2023 the Queen's birthday holiday is June 10 in NSW, Vic, SA, Tas, ACT and NT
It's September 25 for WA
It's October 2 for Queensland

Pick a day - and day . . .

Lydia Thorpes speech yesterday might give you a clue, she called for a NO vote on the Voice as she wants a treaty with reparations to be paid, she received huge cheers from the crowd.
If I were an indigenous Australian and the Australian people changed the date, I would look at it as a sign that people acknowledge the issue and are willing to empathise. I don't think I would see it as a stepping stone to wanting something else.

It would just be a happy day where we could all celebrate without the anguish.

It's 48% actually. Maybe they could call it "White Australia Day". :D

Would it be too much to say it already is? Or am I being cheeky?

I'm not sure I understand how people can be aware of how problematic something can be and still wish to celebrate it regardless.

If it's not a national day designed to include, it seems a bit worthless, especially as a, well, national day.

I think they are valid things to bring up in the discussion. Comparing them does not make them equal.

There were definitely policies, practices and other more or less official frameworks that had explicitly genocidal aims or outcomes.

I think one basic issue that's sobering to consider is that colonisation isn't over, or is in the past. Governments continue to legislate around Indigenous people without consent or consultation. Businesses continue to disregard traditional culture and destroy places of great cultural significance, practically unhindered.

The colonisation that many think of as 'history' that should be moved on from is actually still going on, and continues to have deep, intergenerational effects, just as many of us benefit from the effects of colonisation and dispossession.

It's not comfortable to think about, but it's at the very core of the founding of this nation. That seems pretty inarguable to me, but what we do with that knowledge is what counts (or I hope it does).

As I’ve aged I’ve become less patriotic. In fact, I’m not at all, anymore. Generally I’m disappointed with what our country has become.

in saying that I’m terribly saddened by what I saw yesterday.

I saw banners with threats to kill. To start war and demands for taking the country back

The fact that these protesters had children, who looked as young as 6 or 7 carry some of these banners and marching and chanting these hideous catch cries was ……I can’t find words…….. Disgusting is a start.

Fuel on the fire of racial divide🤮

Personally I grew up being told to go back to my own country. The further we get away from believing English history is the most important the better for Australia's multicultural history. Choose a day that celebrates all Australians

I can only imagine that’s horrible and never experienced it at school. Only in my adult life I suspect the kids nowadays are more “enlightened”, aside from a small minority who are just shit anyway.

in saying that I do suggest that’s it’s not only white Australians who experience that form of racism.

personally, ive been racially vilified y other races l8ke the asians, middle east’s and sadly, aboriginals

its human nature, we are tribes at the core

There’s a gulf of difference between being a white person have having hateful words throw at you (not nice or acceptable), and living in a society that is designed with a systemic bias against you and your culture at its core.

Ha, I was viciously and relentlessly bullied for the colour of my skin when I was a kid. All through my life and even now I will not take off my shirt in public. The idea of having 'boardies' and a 'rashy' when you went surfing was a Godsend as I did not have let any body see my body and make fun of it. I have always been an advocate for slip on a shirt!
I lived at the beach and had red hair, blue eyes and the whitest of white skin. The darker the skin you had in my hometown the better you were liked.
Funny as a teacher I was attuned to seeing kids being bullied when other teachers could not see it. I saw kids being bullied ( and yes I took immediate steps to stop it) for many and varied reasons but in my experience I never saw a child bullied for being Aboriginal. Ever. Just my personal experience.
Yes and some kids are just sh## and will find something to pick on a 'weaker' kid. Countries are like that. Human beings are such lovely people.

Where is the bias?, education wise they get more of a helping hand than anybody, health wise the same, career wise they do themselves no help by not attending school, employment wise the education standards limit opportunities , so please explain the bias.

Yes there's prejudice in every country , e.g, getting quoted or charged higher prices than locals . Not so sure you could call it racism , but in many cases I'd say it's bordering on it. We currently have racism coming from many different angles in Australia. Can this be repaired ? I highly doubt it. Should we try to repair it ? Yes, definitely !
