I've got a new rash

So 70% or more of Australians want the date kept at 26th january, changing the date would create a lot of animosity against the Aboriginal people, creating a "voice to Parliament" based on race is racist and would again separate us based on race , more should be done now its 2023 to improving lives and outcomes for aboriginal kids rather than dividing the country.
I'd wager most of that 70% is white. Changing the date wouldn't stop you from having the ability to celebrate the 26th if you would still like. What it would do is show that a majority of white people can empathise with a minority of indigenous people and show a bit of flexibility. Pick a date we can all celebrate together.

Nearly 50 per cent of people are opposed to changing the date of Australia Day from January 26.
Just 28 per cent of Australians want the date to be moved, according to a new Ipsos poll for Nine News and The Age/Sydney Morning Herald.
Of the 1222 people surveyed nationally, 48 per cent were against the date change and a further quarter neither agreed or disagreed.

Forty-one per cent of those surveyed believed changing the date of Australia Day would be important in improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

It doesnt matter if the 70% is purple, the fact is 70% dont want the date changed , the demand for change, the demand for reparations, the situation in places like Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Mt Isa , Darwin, all this is doing is creating damage and animosity against Aboriginal people , have you not seen the marches and demonstrations demanding the land back or reparations ?, we could be stuck here for the next 250 years, IE same situations will be in place.

I'd bet that 70% still want a Queen's birthday holiday as well. That's going to have to change and they're going to have to accept that.

Bundy that is a really poor comparison, the queen passed away, of course the date will change with the crowning of the King, Australia day celebrates the founding of what we now have as Australia.

It wont change, the queens birthday is the 21st April the holiday is the 31st October and is gazetted to stay the same in 2023.

Why would the date change? The Queen's birthday holiday had no relationship to the Queen's actual birthday which was on April 21. It's just a random date and will probably be retained as the King's nominal birthday. Different states celebrate it on different dates. It's only a holiday. I don't think anyone cares what the day is about, just that we get a holiday. Are we really going to celebrate Charles's birthday as though that was an important event for Australians???

Likewise January 26 is a relatively recent celebratory date. People want a holiday. I don't think they'll slit their wrists if it's on a different day.

No matter, there is a lot of difference between a birthday and the founding of a Nation.

Well if that was true most people would want it changed but truth is they dont, perhaps you can tell me if it will change anything for the better, or would it just create a sense of empowerment that would just create more protest.

What I'm sort of getting at is that people can be open to change a date and that should apply in the Australia Day debate. I'm still baffled as to why we are celebrating on that particular day. It makes no sense. We need to please all Australians . That's not happening right now.

So another ridiculous option for a holiday 😜

Ok Bundy lets put it to a National vote and what wins we keep, deal?.

If I were an indigenous Australian and the Australian people changed the date, I would look at it as a sign that people acknowledge the issue and are willing to empathise. I don't think I would see it as a stepping stone to wanting something else.
