Match Discussion Round 8: Rabbitohs v Storm

I wonder if what mansour says is true.

I know Moele said JD spoke to him a out his dropping. I wonder if others get that treatment or the mansour treatment. If chee is dropped it will be interesting cause I though he had one of his better games. There does nkt seem to be much reward for the fringe players. They are just rotated.

I don’t mind wasting a bench forward spot. You can’t interchange 4 middles effectively without short changing someone good. There just aren’t enough interchanges.

Look at the weekend games. Plenty of teams doing well have a guy on the bench with less than 10 minutes played. They’re there in case of emergency and coaches don’t let their presence impact getting their best players the minutes they deserve.

They are fitter than us. We are the most unfit team in the comp.
Because something works at one team, doesn't mean it will work at another.
Most teams also have a 2 hooker rotation. So we aren’t breaking from the norm there.

Only if their hooker can't play 80 mins
Start Duncan on an edge and play Host off the bench as your limited minutes guy. Prop rotation takes 4 changes (start with the 2 you want to play the most minutes), hooker rotation takes 2. That leaves 2 up your sleeve to manage the flow of the game. Use HIA’s and sin bin replacements well.

Burgess, Koloamatangi, Murray, Duncan, Arrow and Moale (wishful thinking) are the guys that IMO should be getting as many minutes as they can handle. The rest of the guys are just there to spell those guys.

our props and second rowers both get gassed.
Even Murray himself, you see him on his haunches sucking in the big ones and he's meant to be one of our fittest and best trainers.
For some reason, JD just won't play Host at prop or Duncan at second row.
He has Host locked in as a second rower only and Duncan locked in as a lock only.
Mamouzelos and Cook should be based on strategy, not when it’s interchange convenient. Cook comes on after 25 or 30 minutes. And either goes off when Mamouzelos returns for the final 20, or if you have momentum, play them in tandem for a bit.

JD is probs the worst coach when it comes to bench rotation and I still think it's a waste of bench spot and you want to use two bench rotations on a hooker position when our back rowers and props are off their feet slipping off tackles and not marking up properly no more just to put an out of form player back in the side?
Makes no sense. Unless you think all of a sudden cook starts playing like he did 6 years ago.

He has done nothing warranted to be dropped and he has had to play out of position in 2 games.

He wouldn't have been in my side to begin with but JD decided to put him in the side and you should only be dropped for 2 reasons, if you aren't performing or if you only came into the side to cover injury and the injured player you were covering has returned back to the side.

He is being dropped because the coach wants to bring Cook back who was meant to be dropped due to poor form but some how gets his spot back just missing one game?

His selections just make no sense and Mansour sounded like he was spot on with how things are handled.

Jason Taylor used to be called The Hat but I think JD has taken that nickname from him with how he picks forwards each week

All I can think of when I see the jumpers is the Morecambe and Wise sketch where they parody "There is Nothing Like A Dame" from South Pacific. I hope the musical theatre buffs appreciate it.
I fear it could launch a thousand memes on Friday

Highly arguable.
I don’t mean on current output (as we probably shouldn’t be putting too much long term decision making on current output given the internal factors).

But all things being equal, Koloamatangi is a fringe rep edge (possibly a handy middle), with 80+ games under his belt.

In a side managed well, he’s a star.

I agree. Young Pete missed a few tackles and looked gassed at times in the game against the Sharks.

IMO, the forwards aren’t necessarily under conditioned, they’re playing out of position.

Burgess is an impact bench piece. Ask for more than that and you’ll get the cons with the pros.

Moale has minutes in him as a middle. He should be on for 50 or so in our current situation.

Host and Koloamatangi should probably be 40 minute middle forwards.

Arrow is flexible.

What people are perceiving as forwards being underdone (and there is probably some of that), I think is players asked to play outside their physically suited spot.

Duncan should be an 80 minute edge. He and Murray should both play 80 most weeks and pace themselves to accomplish that. Including switching with each other at times for a stint away from the middle.

I’d maybe go Arrow, Mamouzelos, Moale, Koloamatangi, Duncan, Murray - Burgess, Mitchell, Host, Cook.

Host can spell Koloamatangi (and depending on how things go, Keaon maybe only has one stint). Ditto Mamouzelos and Cook. Depending how things go, you make the change, and the game decides whether they play out the 80 or get subbed back on.

The stats suggest they are under conditioned.

Switching the deck chairs won't make them fitter.

Like I do agree that some are out of position and not being used to their strengths but that effects form more than fitness.

Coach needs to know his players capabilities and when to sub them off but he doesn't, instead he just keeps switching combinations

Some of the guys like Moale and Duncan need a stint in reserves because JD only gives them limited time on the field. Duncan only got twenty minutes in his last first grade game. They will not develop into first grade players without playing football.

They need to get some game time under their belt. I would prefer this game time in firsts.

No doubt he’s done a poor job there. And continues too.

Havili and Host aren’t key players in the next Souths premiership.

Moale and Duncan may be.

They should be getting minute priority over those guys that we’re pumping minutes into.

The performance difference will be negligible or an improvement IMO.

Correct, only playing Duncan for 20 minutes was criminal.

For me it’s not even an individual player discussion at this point. It’s the actual strategy behind JD’s bench rotation, it seems clueless at this point and I am definitely not saying JD is clueless. But one week it’s a 4 prop bench, which admittedly I don’t think works in today’s game so glad that has been scrapped. Then against the dogs it’s 3 middles with an edge who can also cover the backline which worked well. So that works and then he changes it again with the 2 hooker rotation while dropping Moale who was playing well. Then he changes it again and drops the 2 hooker thing to bring Havili back up. And now it’s back to 2 hookers and removing the edge/utility on the bench. I’m confused, imagine the players.
