Latest Rumours

Getting Bennett would inevitably lead to the same issues in 2-3 years time unless the majority of the senior leadership group are also moved on at the same time.

The club needs to figure out whether the answer is a soft coach like Bennett or a hard-ass like Madge. Whichever approach will get us to 22 faster is the right option to take.

Over to Solly who gets paid the big bucks to figure it out.

I think Bennett can also be "hard ass". He seems to strike the right balance between the 2.

If Bennett got us to 22 and Sam took over afterwards, i would be happy with that.

22 has to be the goal right now, not just making Prelims etc.

There is certainly a lot of talent in that bunch, and with talent comes egos.

You have identified the challenge, getting that many BIG egos pulling on the same rope, consistently.

Bennett is a big reason why Mitchell thinks he has the right to be treated differently .

Personally I don’t want him or Madge anywhere near the joint
 
Realistically the Bennett rumour is just speculation because he doesn’t have a gig elsewhere for next year. He’s probably the only available option that could pull our big egos with bad attitudes into line. So that fixes a major issue.

But we still have key players that look past their prime, and lack a 7 who can win a comp. Not sure there are many available options that fix this.

I’d give the bloke from the Titans a crack as an interim.

He had them playing some great attacking footy
Their defence was tripe but I’m sure we could pick up a defensive coach of note from somewhere.

Whoever was doing our defensive coaching at the start of last year was doing a pretty sound job.
I’d love for Sam to come back and coach because I’ve always thought he was a great analyst and a real student of the game.

Whether the time is right just now is highly debatable but he’s ticking all the boxes over in England at the moment.
He was the toughest player I’ve ever seen so you would think players young ones in particular would have enormous respect for him.
Once the remaining players he played with like Cook and Walker are finished might be the right time for Sam to come home.
 
Bennett done his time here new project. a few wins is what we need

Being a tough/great player doesnt mean you will be a great coach. Just ask the likes of Wally Lewis. Sam is off to a nice start but has a long way to go.

Justin Holbrook? You would take a guy that did nothing with the Titans over a proven winner and someone the playing group clearly respects in Wayne Bennett?

Or a premiership winner in Madge?

Sorry i cant take that suggestion seriously, surely you are taking the piss!

He has a history of helping us win a comp when you said the club should sack him in 2014 because he was a bad influence and the reason we lost a few early games in the season.

Bennett couldn't get us a premiership because of injuries and suspensions. JD hasn't been able to get us a premiership because of injuries and suspensions. Is there a common theme there or do people have their eyes closed ? Making the finals and bowing out and not making the finals is exactly the same result in the trophy cabinet.

Totally incorrect but then you have a habit of lying.

I actually was on the totally OPPOSITE side and said Burgess should NOT be allowed to break his contract to go and play Union. I said he should be made to see out his contract with us.

I was attacked by most forum posters and was told he didn't break his contract, he negotiated a release.

Bullshit, he didn't see it out, he broke it.

The entire contract/union thread is still in the archives of The Pride.

Find me one comment from me at that time in which I blamed Burgess for losses, and even more interestingly find me a quote where I said we should sack him, when I in fact said the opposite, that he should not be allowed to leave until he sees out his contract with Souths.

Either your memory has failed you or you can't control your propensity for lying about other posters and their comments. Something you constantly do.

Speaking of posters, your habit of hardly being able to make a post without mentioning me is getting kind of creepy.
