State of Origin: Discussion

QLD deserved their win but had to play dirty and bash the blues to do it…it was their game plan all along
Yep. Superb tactics. Billy knew the judiciary would go light on his players and let them bash. Tino was immense . Billy has also shown everyone how to beat the Panthers. If Bennet had had some balls in last years GF to bash Cleary and Yeo we would have won it even without Latrell.

I agree, with the softer penalties in place they could get away with it and gags getting a fine instead of quite a few weeks on the sideline proves it😊

Sorry for my late reaction, had to work today.

But man, oh man, what a night last night!!! I think we should all feel extremely privileged to have witnessed that. Seriously, one of the greatest games I have ever seen of all time, and I don't say that lightly at all. It just had everything, absolutely everything you could want. Intensity was next level, high quality Footy and a bit of biff too!!

I was sitting there all 80 minutes with a huge smile on my face just not believing what I was watching!! Seriously very grateful to have lived in a time where I got to witness that.

So stoked that Queensland won! Certainly one of their greatest wins with all the odds against them once again.

Our Rabbitohs had a bit of a quiet night. Cam was concussed early obviously, Jai just did his job and Cookie was stitched up by Fittler with the minutes he played.

Just loved it last night! I'm still buzzing!

And like I keep saying when it was tough nsw missed Murray

You just knew that’s what Queensland were going to do. The Tupou error before halftime was the turning point. That second half was all Queensland.

The Blues kept defending but then silly errors kept giving them more chances. In the end it cost the Blues.

Was as physical a game as you get. Queensland deserved their win.

Questions need to be asked of Fittler and Brandy. Some of their selections were just poor. Playing Talakai in the middle was a mistake. Crichton was terrible all series. Tupou was ordinary as well tonight.

They missed JAC and his energy. Why he wasn’t selected I’ll never know.
JAC brushed the chooks and signed with the dogs

Spot on.

Freddy made the mistake like Wayne, that believing if you only worry about yourselves and play your style you win

Unfortunately teams like Melbourne, Penrith and QLD know if they disrupt your plans and play their game they win

NSW got what they deserved. The omission of Whighton was a massive error as was the abundance of Clearys mates

QLD continue to do Origin better.

If NSW are serious a fit Turbo is fullback next year with Trell and Whighton in the centre’s with JAC replacing To’o.

JAC replacing Tupou, otherwise I agree with everything you have said.

"We have a duty of care" - RLPA plans controversial Origin ban

With some of the NRL’s best players aiming to represent their clubs within 48 hours of one of the most brutal State of Origin contests of all time, The Daily Telegraph’s Dean Ritchie reports that the RLPA has approached the NRL about a blanket ban on players being asked to back-up after Origin.

With a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) due to be implemented next season, RLPA Chief Executive Clint Newton hopes to have a mandatory stand-down rule added to the terms.

“Nowhere in the world in any code of this kind, where it’s high-speed, high-collision, would we see athletes back up within 48 hours of a match,” Newton told the Telegraph.

“This is the players’ workplace. Would we expect Makybe Diva to back up in a second Melbourne Cup two days later?

“We don’t allow truck drivers to work for long hours. We have a duty of care to the players.

“After Wednesday’s match, not one person (would disagree) that was one of the most demanding and physical games of rugby league that anyone would have seen.

“It was a classic example of why it’s essential to ensure the players are given appropriate time to rest and recover. I’d suggest standing down players from club duties post-Origin is absolutely on the agenda through the CBA.

“Fans want to make sure the best players are playing in the big matches. The risk (of players missing out) considerably increases if we’re not putting protections in place to look after them.

“Sometimes you have to protect them from themselves because (backing up) has been worn as a badge of honour. You don’t want a situation… where a player feels obligated to back up when they know they’re not in the best position to do so.”

While Penrith have already decided to rest their Origin players for this week’s clash against Wests Tigers, they’re six points clear at the top of the table. As competition for other spots in the post-season heats up, not every team and player will feel they have that freedom.

“Workers have restrictions on their ability to do double-shifts and overtime because they’ll do it if given the chance.

“But like any workplace, the duty of care doesn’t fall at the feet of the employee. It’s up to those looking after them – and that’s all of us – to take responsibility.
