2025 Rumours

the multiple club departures are suss.

Are they? It’s clear to me that it isn’t.

“Lodge initially thought he would extend with a three-year deal at the club in 2023, before Jared Waerea-Hargreaves opted to extend and the deal fell through
When told he would not be kept beyond the end of last year, Lodge requested a release that was eventually granted by the Tri-colours.

Robbo is a top-tier coach, he's very good and I learned a lot," Lodge said.
"It was just a business transaction at the end there. I was playing for a packet of chips and can of coke each week. That couldn't last forever“

Ditto at Manly

It's up in the air (where I end up) because I am not signed and the club (Manly) was talking about trying to make some room.
"I love it here.
"(But) at the end of the day people have got to understand I have four kids and have to pay the bills.

The Warriors? This clears it up as well

But with the Warriors due to return to New Zealand next month, he decided it was time to hit the eject button. It is understood Lodge was concerned at some other off-field incidents related to the treatment of Warriors teammates, which represented the final straw in him knocking back the four-year upgrade.

“It wasn’t a planned exit. I was supposed to play out the year at least. It all happened really fast,” he said.

“This time around, when I called time at the Warriors, I made the decision after learning from my last months with the Broncos.

“I wouldn’t let the boys know what was affecting me. I continued to buy in. I trained my hardest every session, I helped younger lads out and made time for the boys. I gave everything I could to try to get us a win every week.

“I’m just somewhat happy my time ended with the club with respect from the boys because at the end of the day that’s what matters to me most. It was very tough getting in front of that group and telling them I was done.

This incident was just weird. The contract buy-out for a player that just ‘didn’t want to move to NZ’ doesn’t make sense to me.

In normal circumstances, the player in that position would be forced to forgo that option if they didn’t want to honour their contract.

Maybe he’s just unlucky and has found himself at clubs when roster changes have been made.

Generally when a player moves around a lot, it’s skill related or in the case of an AFB or Ryan Matterson, a gun for hire looking to maximise their earning. Lodge doesn’t seem to fit in either category, which leads to the speculation.

I like Taane Milne as a prop
For some time now, I have been very impressed with TM.
If our roster were a little different, I would be all for him staying.
If it's purely on effort and commitment in 2024, then I am 100% all for Taane.
As to him playing prop, that is a bit of a stretch??
2nd row is different. I really just wish that we tried him there this year but we didn't...often he was needed in centres I guess... but now, there are a few players pushing for those spots, but I really like to support players who really give 100% for us and even his haters, cannot argue on that point?
Plus, he extended his game with his redoubtable offloading ability.
So, my vote is ... if possible... keep TM and get rid of a 'lesser?' backrower... like JH.
BUT PROP???

Clint Gutherson is set to make a major move to the St George Illawarra Dragons.

According to Danny Weidler on X, while the paperwork is still being finalised, Gutherson is expected to join the Dragons on a three-year contract, reportedly valued at $2.5 million.

Gutherson brings extensive experience, having played 211 NRL games and made four State of Origin appearances with the Blues.

Hey everyone,

As the discussion begins to shift towards 2025, it's a good time for this.

This is part of a little bit of an update we are undertaking on the Pride, new threads for all the main topics. These will all work similar to the old threads, but just updated for 2025, and we will make a new one each year from now on. Just makes things easier to navigate historically moving forward.

Please discontinue using the old thread, and post here if you can.

Moving forward, the mod team are going to be a bit stricter on what is posted in these threads too, and we'd like everyone to try and be a bit more diligent with where they post things.

Obviously, this "Rumours" thread is for discussion related to rumours and speculation. Let's try to keep it purely as that.

I think some people get confused about the "News, General Articles and Discussion" thread. The discussion should be about the news and general articles that have been posted. It's not for random thoughts or bits of information. Other discussion not related to the news and general articles should be in a new separate thread.

Thanks everyone.
WB doesn't want him, won't happen

Seems Gutho got his way with the 3 years.

Scuttle was that Flanagan only wanted to give him 2.
