2025 Rumours

I don't think Hunt will end up at the Titans.

I have a sneaking suspicion that he'll end up at the Broncos on a 1 year deal, because Mam will be suspended long term (6-12 months).

Or possibly the Dolphins.
Theoretically he could end up at the Broncos, Dolphins or Titans.

What sways my thinking here is the fact Manly have been talking to Boyd, as a backup for DCE. If St Merge had released him last year before Flanno came in, he would be at the Titans already.

Hunt wanted out at the end of last year. His wife is struggling with a couple of kids and no one to help her in Sydney, she wants to be closer to her family. (fair call). They bought a house on the GC late last year. He apparently had spoken to the Titans about moving there. Flanno convinced Hunt to stay.

St Merge were waiting on Gutho decision, which Parramatta have now released him. Gutho to St Merge, Hunt to Titans and Tannah Boyd to Manly.
What a shit show the Merge are. He asked to be released last year and was denied. Like he'd be "settled" after that. Dumb ****s. Flannagan deflecting his own weakness and moreso his sons

Latrell granted. Arrow is nothing like Sam. He’s a toiler with no major impact at the line.

Players like Tapine or Tino are more like Sam.

I’m not saying you need to sign a rep player for rep player. But the player you sign should have that potential

Tallis for Murray is a prime example. Instead we traded rep players for seasoned Reggie players

No but they were confident they had a quality NRL player to fill the void

That’s what I was getting at. Young players with size and ability who are potential rep players

That way you manage your cap and get upside

There’s been way to much downside to our recruits

Then when we have 3 development players that can offer that. Munro for Aj is a prime example the club now decide to let them go to market
Arrow is a rep player and one of our best on a weekly basis. He gets through a mountain of clean up work.
Its all good and well to say lets get Tino or Tapine but they may not want to come.

If your team is playing well then an average player can look amazing, this happens often at the Storm and now Penrith.

We need to build a system where we can recruit or develop some players to fill out your 30 who arent rep level players but will perform to a solid level if called upon.

Yeah, I get your thinking and my thoughts are being swayed by what I'm reading / listening to, to be fair.

He could end up at the Roosters for all we know.

Highly doubt it as for the reasons I set out about his wife and family. She has no support in Sydney, and wants to be closer to her family up north.

I think you are wrong there.

The club does not decide to let them go to market. The players manager does that.

Behind the scenes I believe that the club is doing all they can to retain Munro.

that’s all correct except the hoary old cliche about late 20s. Thats been sprouted for decades but with the professionalism of the current game it’s not as relevant.
By early 20s the top props are already showing their class. Think what Haas & Tino we’re doing at a similar age to Davvy

If Davvy wasn’t one of ours he’d be going without much comment. WB knows it’s his time to now to become a top class prop or be consigned to just another one holding his own running around at a B grade club

Lets hope the penny drops with the kid because he has to show he can dominate now, not in 7 more years on big coin

I think “the late 20s” is still relevant
But more do with regards physical & mental maturity, they might well have the skills, I think it’s very much an individual thing though, it’s just like all people, we’re all different
Certainly with the resources the players have now we might find a higher percentage of young forwards making it earlier but there will always be some that are worth sticking with as they develop later

Sualii for Paulo (downgrade)
That’s a bit of a stretch saying that we replaced Suaalii with Paulo. We offered then 16 year old Suaalii half a million but wouldn’t bow to his demands.
Sua for Host (downgrade)
Host came to us in 2021 so I wouldn’t say that he replaced him. Arrow was playing in the back row in 2022.

Apart from Chris Walker and Glenn Stewart, both of who were much more needed at the times of their signature than Jack, I am struggling to name one.
Russel Richardson
Adam Muir
Shannon Heggarty

And I didn’t even have to think that hard

Needed, needed and needed. None on anywhere near as much money and the club was a laughing stock back then.

Think harder.

I want Jack to eventually turn out to be a brilliant signing and I really hope we don't lose promising juniors or struggle to sign players in positions we desperately need due to his enormous salary.

I don't really recall too many people around 2023 saying "This team really needs a Jack Wighton".

The signing never made sense.

The non-necessity of the singing, coupled with the wage and the potential cap dramas we've allowed ourselves all weighed up together is just huge.

Not his fault, but since we announced his signature we have won 14 of our last 40 matches for a 35% win ratio.

We are now talking about potentially losing Munro, Moale and Duncan.

We've been told we aren't in the market for anyone due to salary cap restraints. This is brilliant.
