Match Discussion Round 9: Rabbitohs v Panthers

So if Wighton is 6 and Cody what does the rest of the backline look like?

1. Gray
2. Gaigai
3. Tass
4. ?
5. Thompson
6. Wighton
7. Walker

Who plays centre? Chee Kam?

Out - AJ, Munro, Latrell, Kennar?, Graham and Te Hau

Looks like chee kam

Rothfield said on fox league sources out of Souths that Trell will be back at centre next week and Jye kept at FB.

Which means nothing if the coach is sacked after this game, new coach could play him at fullback.

Yeah, the Dodd news makes me think they see Jye as a 1 or 14.

Wighton has been the only spark in our backline.

We have a greater need for him at centre than in the halves.

Our 2-5 is going to be terrible this week

Huge changes if true! The biggest shake up we've seen in a line up in a long, long time. I like it and think it needs to happen. However, not this week. When Trell returns in Round 10, then yea, but this week is too early. If Wighton plays 5/8, who are our centers? Who is our threat out wide? No one.

Come on man try harder🤪

that’s the current NRL ladder. We’ve played 7 of the top 8 teams as they stand, all while being totally and utterly decimated by injury & suspension
If the coach and players tried as hard as Shauno we’d be on top! (Pay me later Shauno).

It’s not just about this year. We have regressed in every aspect - player management, results, attack, defence, selections, kicking, player achievement etc etc under JD since 2022.

Compare - Wayne had 90% of this squad and never had an issue with culture, player behaviour, commitment, FITNESS, repeat sets etc. In the team environment he created, players were accountable!! Standards and expectations were high, there was a VISION for the club. Players knew where they stood. Wayne had to deal with the three biggest retirements in Burgess, Inglis and Sutton - and we still made 2 PF and a Grand Final!

“As a head coach, JD makes a competent Assistant Coach” is the nicest way to put it! He is clearly out of his depth!

JD has closed the window on this group’s chances….
… we need a reboot!

What do you mean “threat out wide?” Souths centres never get quality ball. You don’t put your marquee players out there unless you want them catching a cold. Both Campbell Graham and now Jacky Wighton have had to play like second rowers and search for the ball.
This goes back years with the exception of the left side with Dane Gagai during the Wayne golden couple of years.

Appalling recruitment failures?

Sure I would have liked a little less same ol, but appalling recruitment failures might be harsh.

On paper the side looks strong.
Old Jack and the bloke from Manly,Milne,Thommo,Mansour?
To name a few?Old Jack the only goer!
Lookin good on paper!
Great.

Yeah. Jack was a good get.

Keppie was a poor buy, but not on marquee coin hopefully.

Milne and Thompson came from the same pool as Sele. And TBF, Milne has played the role of a player in squad position 25-30 fairly. Which is where he is in the squad.

Again, not stellar recruitment, but not abysmal. The top 20 is strong. And poorly coached.

Throw in Tass, Arrow, Havili, Marshall in the last 3-4 seasons too.

It hasn’t been all doom and gloom.
