With Cody and Dodd here next year, I wonder if there’s a way to flex between Trell and Gray at the back?

When the opposition have the ball, particularly in our end, Trell can move out wide, maybe on the right, and be a big body in the defensive line, while Gray can cover territory at the back, use his speed to field attacking kicks in goal, and manage kick returns.

Then when you have the ball in the opposition's half, Trell can move to play that sweep role out the back, allowing Gray to be another ball playing option on the right.

Allows you to get the best of both worlds while you wait for Cody to retire and one of them (likely Latrell) to move to 6.

01 Gray
02 Johnston or Munro
03 Wighton
04 Mitchell
05 Graham
06 Walker
07 Dodd

If you want to keep Graham in the centres, Wighton could shift to an edge backrow spot.

Trell has been quoted many times saying he’s there to provide the icing, not the cake (paraphrasing), this would allow for this nicely.

Hopefully Bennett does a Wally on Walker.

Where then do you play Su'a?

Worry about that when he’s a Rabbitoh.

But if we signed him, Koloamatangi probably moves to the middle anyway (as there likely isn’t cash left to recruit a big name middle replacement for Burgess). So Wighton and Duncan are your likely options on an edge. Short of shifting Murray. Best of Fletcher, Host and Lovett in waiting.

Either way, injuries happen and flexibility is crucial.

Gray is a half. He’s not a fullback. He plays with plenty of heart and effort, but he’s just too small to be a fullback. So you may as well just let him develop as a half.

Any size issues he’ll have at fullback will be greater at half. Kikau, Fifita… that’s tough.
That's true, but I just think that he's a better fit as a half. Purely my view on it, although he has showed promise as a fullback too. He's just a talented footballer to be honest, whether he plays at fullback or half.

I wonder where Bennet will slot gray next year , he will have already had his first season behind him . Same height as bennets current 5/8 , but I think gray is faster over 30m & makes better decisions.

There aren’t a lot of options are there?

7 and 6 are seemingly taken.

1 has some conjecture but it’s currently the guy Wayne played there for 2 years when he was here last.

He’s not a great fit for 14 given he can only play 6, 7 and 1 and those are 80 minute positons (won’t do his development any good sitting on the bench).

I think it’s a case of him needing to impress in the last few games this year and then in the offseason in order to force Trell elsewhere, or Wayne will probably play him in reserves somewhere and wait for Trell, Walker or Dodd to drop form or be injured?
