2025 NRL Squad & Football Dept. Tracker

I’m a little stuck on the Ello bit. It seems more a title change than anything else? Or was he previously responsible for ALL recruitment & retention across the grades too? And now it’s just the NRL squad?
The way I read Ello's role is that he is in charge of signing players who have been identified by the coach and his assistants. It is a glorified admin role.

My question on that then is who is out there looking for new young talent to sign up?
Who is doing the Ponisi/O'Sullivan role and finding the next big guns?
Something we seem to be lacking a little in recent times

The way I read it is that David Furner is in control of recruitment at all pathway levels (ie NSW Cup down to junior reps).

The NRL squad has the usual committee type structure where the "head" (ie Ello) implements the decision made by the committee.

I think Ello being an ex teacher is good at sitting down with the families of you young players & explaining all the processes & assuring them that they’ll look after young “Johnny” or little “Mary” he’s pretty personable dealing with the kids etc
I think people on here like to give him a hard time from afar without fully understanding what he does

The committee we had Wayne won’t stand for that. I’d say Wayne and Ello will converse together on recruitment and retention.

It may not be the same type of committee, but you need input from someone in touch with the financials / salary cap before you can rush off and sign someone.

I agree with you though that whatever committee, or structure, Ello is "head" of, it will be Wayne who will be deciding who we sign. Ello will be the one who meets the player, his family, manager etc and prepares the contract.

Yeah failed in his role as head of football so he gets shuffled sideways

It’s ground hog day at this club

That’s correct exactly how I see the role too.

Let’s just hope there is someone looking at talent afar and wide as well.

According to the clubs own media statement Ello was previously in charge of Coaching, Recruitment, Retention Pathways and all NRL team management

He was our Ponisi. Just a very poor version

He failed almost on every metric listed in his JD while also creating a mess of our cap and he gets shuffled sideways

Sorry, but I think it’s posters like yourself who didn’t or don’t understand the entirety of his previous role. Hence the reason why you are supportive of his ineptitude

Musical chairs with other low positioned clubs like Parramatta isn't that exciting.

Why haven't we signed a single ex Penrith employee?

I'd even take the orange peeler.

Anything for an insight into how hard they train! 🤪

Also seems like they’ve absorbed Schaffer’s COO role into a number of other smaller roles?
