2024 Pre-Season

Junior Tatola looks physically as good as he’s been.

Even Richie Kennar looks physically primed and ready to go.
To be fair, they all look like that to be honest. Everyone looks in prime shape. As they should be after the way 2023 finished.

A look at our goal kicking in 2024 - Tele

RABBITOHS

First Choice:

Latrell Mitchell 53/73 (73%) - 2023

Backup:

Blake Taaffe, who kicked 25/35 (71%) as backup for Mitchell in 2023, has left the club which reduces the club’s options. Lachlan Ilias (2/2 in 2023) is an option but he’s really just a makeshift solution. Backup half Dean Hawkins is the best kicker at the club behind Mitchell, but can he crack the starting 13?

Analysis: In the past four seasons 2020-2023 (incl) Latrell Mitchell has played just 14, 17, 14 and 16 games. History suggests the Rabbitohs are going to be without their first-choice kicker for periods of 2024. As mentioned above, Hawkins is the best kicker at the club, but he’s not a Mitchell replacement capable of covering fullback AND kicking like Taaffe did for periods of 2023.

SuperCoach implications: Mitchell has never been a sharpshooter but he’s a big time guy and when the game is on the line then more often than not he slots it. But SuperCoach rewards volume not clutch moments and while the 10.8PPG kicking adds to Mitchell’s average is pretty good, it could be better with a bit more care from the tee. Whoever replaces Mitchell when he has his, seemingly inevitable, time out could be worth a short term grab.

I wandered down to Heffron this morning - only caught the tail end and can confirm Ilias is indeed a solid kid and saw Braidon was back with us. I remember reading this last year but it slipped my my mind.

Ilias is a solid build you’re right his asset is his defence which is good part to his game.

Did you get a look at who was training edge? Was it Arrow or Host/Cheeks.

Burnsie?

Nice backline, a few here may lose their minds :)

Note that tip from Blake Solly is that Sat mornings are the best to watch training as they have full contact games.

Arrow as per above. They are moving players around so I wouldn’t believe too much.

Comments on here regarding how fit everyone looks matches what they said today at Heffron. The staff really made use of the extra pre-Christmas weeks of training we had. Made sure they increased everyone’s’ fitness/strength/speed. Tried to emulate what the Broncos did after they missed the 8.

Totally understand what Blake was saying but was waiting for someone to pipe in and make a comment about going one better 😄
