2024 Pre-Season

I will say, I know it could be the angle of the photos but some of the boys look in great shape. I’m not sure I’ve seen Milne n Tatola so lean
Make the whole season the pre-season. None of those annoying losses getting in the way of the excitement around your team. :)

And yeah, I agree. Probably us fans projecting our hopes and dreams, but preseason looks to be going well.

Bit of resolve post last year’s results. A big name new recruit. No rep stuff messing with the spine’s preseason start (Cody, Cook, Latrell and Ilias have all been on deck for a while now - Hawkins too).

Reserve grade side finished the year in fine form.

Kolo, Tom and Tatola singled out for their fitness.

All good stuff. :)

Just a shame Munro and Thompson have carried niggles and Wighton is going to miss the season start.

How is Souths being penalised by something that happened in a Raiders game fair?

Two. Don't forget this lad.

If we can turn around at the end of 2024 and say ‘wow, what an astute get Keppie was’, I’ll be a very happy supporter.

It’s funny, we have a recent track record of signing guys like Tatola, Sele, Nichols, even Nathan Brown a little further back. Guys that no one really blinked at us grabbing at the time, who did a great job up front for us.

Yet with Keppie (who I have seen play next to zero footy), all I can think of is the Liam Knight let down.

Since we signed Keppie I have done a lot of online searching and watched a couple of Many games, as I was not that familiar with him either.

Now, I feel he could be one of our best recent signings, big, agro and can hit hard in defence. I think him and Jai are going to get along just fine!!!

Probably controversial take but I think the issue with Liam was twofold.

1. He got a number of injuries (and suspensions) that were longish term in nature, which disrupted his progression. He always seemed to be coming back from something and getting his fitness back.
2. I don't think we used him correctly. I felt his best position was Lock...and that was never going to happen each and every week, and he was a better starter than coming off the bench.
Each time (could be rose tinted nostalgia on my behalf to be clear) he started for us, he had a big game.
When he came off the bench we got the flipper hands and high/late tackle stupidity that we came to know and love.

And for what it's worth, Keppie will be seen as a great signing by the club, I reckon.

Yeah, it does seem unfair but the player has to swallow the punishment, unless of course you‘re JWH….lol

I can't say I was that familiar with Keppie but I was a fan of his body shape.
I mean, where do you tackle him.
Good to hear there's a bit of aggro there too.
My old rugby coach said you always need a guy with a bit of c*** mongrel and I agree.
