2025 Rumours

Yep, there’s usually a bit of mid season churn around the NRL and the priority could change and of course we could trim our roster once Wayne has a clearer picture on the shape of the roster.

He could be an option if we don't sort out the 9 and 14 spots by round 10 or so. That is of course if the Roosters really are shopping him around.
I hope not.

He isnt really a 9 and will eventually transition into a middle forward as he gets older and slows down too.

I think Brandon Smith could be a good short term option for us (and yes I know he did his ACL and won't be back until June next year).

I have a soft spot for him - which means he's not really a Rooster, and when he is playing well he is a dangerous dummy half.

He may transition into the middle Like Brendan says but not for 3 years or so.

(and yes I'm a little concerned about our hooker options)

Ilias is like Gagai Jr. to me. A loss more because of our Swiss cheese roster, filled with holes - more than because he’s a player or potentially a player that we’ll regret losing.

I’ve said it a few times but I really believe the strategy for 2025 is to make the best with what we’ve got and make a play at the market for season 2026.

We’re fire-selling so many players off where we’re already lacking class or depth that there’s either a rebuild strategy going on or complete incompetence bordering on negligence.

To be fair, are we going to miss anyone we've released or may soon release?
Cookie as an example - yeah we will miss his off field stuff, but not his salary.
Ilias I suspect will be in the same category - better off for our cap if he moves on.
I guess it depends on which side of the fence you sit hey.
I don't believe there is incompetence/negligence at play with our recruiting, and feel a young guy with potential will generally have a better upside than an older known quantity player, such as Gags.
Having said that, sure there are things we can do better, but I don't believe they're bad, we just can be better.

I see your point but I was suggesting Smith as a midseason pick up if PM didn't work out at 9 or Humphreys at 14, or anyone else at 14 like Liva for that matter. I don't think it will be an issue anyway because while I am not overly convinced with PM at 9 I am very confident, from the few games I have watched of him, that Humphreys will start to deliver for us and could take the starting 9 spot. That midseason spot could then be available for, dare I say it, a return to the NRL for TPJ.

Personally I think we stick with who we have.
Look at our roster, the last thing we need is another high priced footballer that seems to turn up for his best only when he wants.
Big no as far as im concerned.
