2025 Pre-Season

Good to see we're hamstringing ourselves again by having a smaller squad than the rest of the NRL (you just know those final 2 spots will be late season fills to lower graders, again).

... then continues the new club mantra of hoping we are there abouts ...
I have massive concerns about this. Not just Solly, it's something you'll hear Pappas mention too.

Our position as a club seems to be that we aim to be Top 4 every year, and then 'hope' (?) to win the odd premiership.

We're not planning for dominance. We're planning to be 'there abouts', as you say.

Our 2018-22 results highlight that you get what you plan for.

We all know your another South Sydney are the best flag waving apologists despite the fact we ran second last.

Again Solly was great on the commercial side of the interview but I wouldn’t call it a great interview when he denies we lack depth in the middle. States we won’t be signing one then continues the new club mantra of hoping we are there abouts

We seen what happened during the Piggins era where success wasn’t a priority

Another few dry years Blake will find out pretty quickly sponsors gauge part of their ROI on success and our owners don’t like putting their hands in their own pockets

Winning is the only business model Solly should care about as that takes care of everything else including whinging fans

Yawn 🥱
Did you get booted from the Warren for not being negative enough?
What a sad sac you are

If there are any concerns you have, I’m sure that the administrators at the club, as well as Wayne & the coaching staff are well aware of it & have a plan, You can bet you’re not onto something & the club is well aware of how they’re tracking & planning, or perhaps you should throw your hat into the ring

It’s just an interview, he doesn’t have to lay any cards on the table, he doesn’t have to give too much away, it’s nice that you can interpret his language & turns of phrase & identify his state of mind, so talented

RABBITOHS — Jamie Humphreys

The Rabbitohs pulled off a massive coup when they signed halfback Jamie Humphreys from the Manly Sea Eagles halfway through last season.

Manly were eyeing Humphreys as the heir to Daly Cherry-Evans’ No.7 jersey, but with the Queensland skipper playing on and Luke Brooks also at the club, Humphreys saw an opportunity at Souths.

His two-year deal at Souths, which expires in 2026, will see Humphreys vie with Lewis Dodd and Lachlan Ilias for a spot in the halves alongside Cody Walker.

Humphreys debuted for Manly last season and scored a try and three goals from as many attempts, proving he has a massive future in the NRL.

The chance to work with Wayne Bennett was no doubt a major drawing card for Humphreys and if Dodd struggles early in the year, don’t be surprised if he is the Souths’ No.7 by the end of the 2025 season.

While it's a decent interview, Solly is very focused on the admin side and (possibly) a future role in the NRL.

We clearly need someone else who can really drive recruitment and the future of the pathways

Why is it that posters with multiple personality disorders love resorting to name calling when they can’t actually refute the truth in an argument?

Did you change your nic because of how you embarrassed yourself backing JD and the football department for two seasons of failure or do you actually believe you are somebody else Darque?

I know it’s getting boring reading how right I’ve been over the years. I wish it wasn’t so. It’s like a curse. I just know where complacency mixed with incompetence leads and I’m the type who calls shit out when I see it or see it coming.

I don’t understand losing or more so how people enjoying it.

But perhaps you can try and enlighten me, you seem to relish it, like it’s something you’re accustomed to

Don’t like your chances though

There’s no truth in your argument, you’re predicting things before they happen & acting like you’re alone in seeing every issue whereas the people actually involved with the club are oblivious, I’m sure you enjoy looking down on everyone from your lofty pedestal but it’s all in your own mind

I’m sure if Darque had something to say to you he wouldn’t use an alt, I’ve noticed him enough on forums over the decades to understand he’s no wallflower & I’ve seen the likes of you that seemingly enjoy running down the club at every opportunity when there’s a lean period

The impending season is a new one, yet you our doom & gloom is palpable
How bloody depressing
How do you look forward to a new season when in your mind everything has gone to shit 5 months out from season start?

Glad to know I’m not the only one seeing things this way.

Pulling_His_Pants_Down took exception to my take on this.

I think these comments and what’s been going on in The Football Department become even more obvious when you watch the chasing glory doco.

Again the club have put out a puff/promo/feel good piece for themselves instead of actually taking notice of the lessons in it

Am I wrong for thinking that was the real South Sydney during that era? The South Sydney that can actually rightfully claim to be ‘ The Pride of the League’

We bring in Madge ( a coach from the benchmark )

Then he brings in other personnel who are best in their field

We build a deep roster all the way through pathways

Then we are the f$&king benchmark who now think anything other than a premiership is failure

This is a culture of success. We were feared and revered. I remember Bellamy coming out after 2014 saying they needed to recruit up front so they could mix it with the likes of Us

The club need to raise the bar on expectations otherwise it’s going to be another 4 decades before we win another premiership and we are already through the first one

I would like to think that what is said to the media and what happens within the club are very different.

If Solly or Pappas were more bullish, the crap the media would go on with is unimaginable.

I don't for a second believe that the club (especially the coach) thinks that we are right for middles. I just cannot see how a coach or a club official can say that publicly.

There’s plenty of truth in my argument that’s why you take exception too it and I predicted and was scoffed at two years ago when I said the Northern Pride Contingent would lead us to exactly where we are now

I’m not a hindsight hero champ. I call shit out early and unfortunately it keeps proving true

If the geniuses involved at the club actually saw the issues why was JD signed in the first place?

Why was he then extended?

Why wasn’t he let go at the end of 23?

Why were we the unfittest club in the NRL for 3 seasons and why have we constantly had a high injury toll?

Why haven’t any of or pathways made a finals series in the last 3 years?

Why haven’t we signed one winger capable of providing yardage?

Why do we have cap issues after releasing a GF winning halfback, a former Australian hooker and former GB prop without actually replacing them?

, I’m sure you enjoy looking down on everyone from your lofty pedestal but it’s all in your own mind
Not everyone there are actually a few on my level on here that’s why I like it. Your just not one of them

I like being prepared for what’s coming and unfortunately it ain’t number 22

Sure there will be some enjoyable wins and I look forward to seeing some of the young guys develop under a real coach

Too bad we didn’t have more competent personnel in our football department as every team outside of Melbourne in the top 4 are weaker this year. A couple more astute signings under better planning would of seriously seen us well and truly in the mix

This is what you don’t get. We are still slightly in a premiership window with the marquees we have. So the club should of planned better to keep it opened wider by filling the holes in the squad

But they didn’t

I tend to disagree. You don’t put out press releases praising yourselves for 5 straight prelims if you think you have actually fallen short

Wayne holds his cards close to his chest although he has said he wants a middle that’s why he had no interest in JAC.

Richo has clearly been outlining where he needs to build the Tigers roster as does Gus over at the Dogs. Maybe Solly is now totally staying out of the FD

I don’t give a rats arse about what you said two years ago, I wasn’t here, I wouldn’t know, I’m talking about now, I don’t care about your gloating about what you supposedly predicted
Northern pride are an ongoing situation, I’m sure they’ll be of benefit

You’re a Mondays expert I bet
JD was signed because he’s a good coach
He’s still a good coach, I don’t know anyone handles taking over from blokes like Wayne, the same will happen with Bellamy when he goes, possibly Cleary
JD will bounce back

We have cap issues? I’m not aware of the ins & outs with regards the cap & either are you, so there’s no point commenting, there could be any number of issues, I’m really not up to speed, ask your mate Ello?

How do you know we were the y fittest club? You’re just taking guesses, have you got any data to prove that? Or is it just your opinion?

I don’t think the club takes notice of results in pathways & is more concerned with development, there have been a lot of players playing up in age, but again, ask the club, if you’re a member, ask them, rather than bleating like a good sort

The only people on your level are other old tarts who could whinge & moan for Australia

A couple more astute signings? None of our current signings have played a game yet & you’re writing them off, how do you know that we won’t have more? Solly is t going to blurt a whole heap of shit out on the radio & that's good compared to past administrations

The squad looks fine, maybe Wayne doesn’t agree with you
Before you start running the club down, how about waiting to see what happens

Getting back on topic, the link above takes you to the story gallery from today's training.

Judging by that, and speaking with someone who was at training, it appears as though today was more of a skills-based session that focused on handling. Guy I spoke to said it looked pretty good all things considered, and everyone was extremely focused.
