Solly says they will leave the final two roster spots open until later in the Season. Of course, that could just be talk, we don't know.

Obviously, there's rumours about Lodge but he says we won't be signing anyone.

Even if we were going to I doubt he’s going to blurt out anything on the radio mid negotiation

Who knows what’s going to happen

If Mellars can overcome his injury dramas and be the player you believe he could be, with Munro also doing that, do you believe we need another winger that we would be spending big money on?

You've talked Mellars up quite high.

Do we trust in the pathways or not?
I’ve always thought both Mellars and Munro shouldn’t come into NRL consideration until probably mid season this year with the view of being full time in 26

Both needed to mature physically particularly when you consider the role NRL wingers should play in your structures

That being said atm we can’t bank on either due to their consistent injury tolls. This is why I believe the club should of hedged their bets and gone for big wingers like Skelton and Junior Tupou who are one lower tier contracts

It’s obvious now we have massive cap constraints so chasing wingers like Young or Turuva in that $500k plus category doesn’t work for us, so no I don’t think we should or can get a higher priced winger now

But I do think we should be looking at, at least one big fast mobile winger for depth

In regards to trusting pathway's, it’s a dynamic environment. IMO due to our lack of depth on the fringes Munro was rushed and Mellars we are sweating on coming good.

But you can’t just have one kid for each spot earmarked to come through. There’s injuries, attitude problems and even illness that can come into play

It’s why I think our talent needs to run deeper. These two are seriously our only two genuine wing stocks throughout the club.

We saw back when the club sacked James Robert’s and AFB back in the day that this didn’t really hurt us as our talent at the time ran deep

These were two absolute standout pathway players both earmarked for grade. Yet their loses were covered

If Munro and Mellars don’t become more durable we are back with NSW cup level wingers playing the bulk of the season

Yes we still have Aj. But most players don’t bounce back from an Achilles. It took Dodd 3/4 of the season before he started moving freely again

But here is hoping for a great year injury wise. I believe the players will be fitter and better prepared so hopefully that translates into a great year

I have stated earlier that I thought Bennett would wait to see when he gets here face to face with players and assess things better before making a final call.
So many borderlines with injury returns and who plays where.
So I thought he would keep one up his sleeve but didn't expect he would hold onto both cards.
Cap doesn't help of course.
Lots of questions...e.g. what happens to PM'S contract if he is not first string hooker or not regular 17 player.
Dodd, etc etc
Upside is that it could be a great opportunity for the budding youngsters to take a spot by the throat and make it theirs
...
Thinking of Mellars, LeBlanc, Fletcher, Illias, Dodd, Schuster, Humphreys, Gray.....even 'regulars' like Havili, Tass, PM
If some of these stars shine brightly, all of a sudden our roster looks great.
Motto ... MSGA?? 😁

So when asked about whether we’d go for someone like a Terrell May Solly said we don’t have that sort of money to throw around. There is no rush to fill the last 2 spots we have a good squad. When asked on middle depth being a concern Solly says he thinks next year people will be surprised by the fact our middle depth is fine it’s not a concern for us. Solly also said we will take games away to Perth and Central Coast next year. Our Magic Round game is generally a home game too so I guess that leaves 9 home games left if 2 are at Allianz that’ll mean 7 home games at Accor and the away game v Dogs meaning 8 games at Accor.

Pretty sure Bennett's no idiot . He knows injuries cruelled our season and he knows he has a more than capable squad to work with. I think Solly is on the money . Let's wait and see what this team looks like when they can all actually get on the paddock together. If it's not working then you go to plan B and grab a couple of mid-season signings that you can manipulate your cap around.

I agree.
Would have felt more comfortable with another experienced middle to start the season.
However if its not to then, it's not to be.

Smart play to leave room for mid year trades. Other clubs do it and last year this place was begging for us to do it

Stop putting a positive slant on things, you’ll have the negative Nellie’s complaining
For a small part of our season we had a pretty good amount of our stars back from injury or suspension and we won playing bloody good footy. If we can get a semblance of that team with some new recruits on the field they will be more than competitive. I think some people on here just thrive on pessimism.
