Player Cody Walker

Interesting that DCE is apparently a very strong chance of playing into 2026 at Manly.
NRL360 pundits think he’s showing no signs of a form slide. He’s a year older (11months to be exact) than Cody so it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that Cody kicks on for another season or 2 given Wayne has a huge rap on his abilities.

The only difference with Cody playing on, is he relies on “explosive speed” as part of his game. He’s deceptively fast over short distances.

I think it’s part of the reason he keeps on getting calf injuries (that and the hump in the middle of Heffron).

But if he can manage that and stay on the park, he should absolutely play on next year.

And as much as we talk about his possible injury woes, his record of being fit enough to take the field is exemplary.

70 games played the last 3 years in a side that can’t keep players on the park.

I think he’s missed 5 games total across those 3 seasons.

Plus he is an 80 minute effort player and imo one of the best defensive 5/8s going around.
He does rely on speed sometimes but thats just part of his armoury.
Other great fast playmakers have also reinvented themselves as they slow down.
Having said that, I'm certainly not suggesting Cody will drop in speed anyway.

Yep, and I wasn't inferring that Cody's injury prone.

It was more a contrast with DCE and him potentially playing on next year, and drawing the distinction about their playing styles.

(I personally think Cody will go around next year - but didn't want to say that the first time in a vain effort not to upset @Nifty 😉)

If he stays on the park and is playing ok I see no issue extending for another season. If he’s breaking down because he’s 60 or just form and timing slips then no thanks he can go find a retirement pack elsewhere which I have no doubt he can find and deserves.

Wayne seems very keen, so I can only assume Cody is the hold up in already having a deal done.

Do you want the club to win another premiership? Then think about your assertion.

I guess there’s a strong possibility that Cody is given a reduced training regimen to help with the physical demands and potential muscle strains. It’s not unheard of that players face that situation towards their late seasons. I read somewhere that Terry Lamb had a training exemption towards the end of his playing career. I doubt his footy smarts will desert him.
