Australians face bleak housing future
Policymakers want to force Australians to live in high-rise apartment towers, assuming it will improve affordability. Their assumption is incorrect, as data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) shows that building a shoebox apartment is more expensive than building a detached house...www.macrobusiness.com.au
Despite assuring us all immigration was to be cut numbers i heard on the radio said we still had over 400,000 permanent new residents here in the last 12 months, the number was just a few thousand under the record, people financially stressed paying huge rents, people living in cars and tents and Labor still has the gates wide open, friend of the working man?, not any more..
Elections always being put the scare tactics via xenophobia, it’s a conservative given
The ignorant masses will eat up the notion of “Johnny foreigner is out to steal your job, house, women, future” etc etc
It has ZERO to do with where the immigrants come from, it has everything to do with numbers and supply and demand, you must be ignorant if you think our housing crisis has anything at all to do with xenophobia
.
I guarantee you there wouldn’t be half as much noise if they were nice white British & Irish, NZ, even Saffas
This is from a leading demographer Simon Kuestenmacher
“Kuestenmacher explains that migrants are often targeted in the housing debate, perceived as adding insurmountable pressure to already stretched housing markets, especially in major cities like Sydney and Melbourne.
In reality, he argues, migrants play a crucial role in bolstering the economy, filling vital skill shortages, and contributing to the social fabric of our communities.
According to Kuestenmacher, migration is not just about numbers; it's about the skills, energy, and economic activity that new arrivals bring to the country.
Migrants don't just occupy homes—they help build them too, through both direct construction roles and broader economic stimulation.
Migrants are often blamed for adding pressure to already stretched housing markets, but they actually bolster the economy and contribute to our communities.
According to Simon Kuestenmacher, migration is not just about numbers, but also about the skills, energy, and economic activity that new arrivals bring to the country. Migrants help build homes, but the supply of new homes hasn't kept pace.
The core issue is a broken housing supply system that is unable to keep up with demand. The focus has been on high-end apartments and luxury developments rather than affordable housing that meets the needs of the broader population.
To address population growth issues, we need a comprehensive and strategic approach that integrates immigration, housing, and infrastructure policies. This approach requires substantial investment in regional infrastructure to make them attractive and viable alternatives for new migrants and local movers.
Rubbish, Albo let in more dog handlers, or was it yoga instructors last year than builders, immigration does boost an economy but not at over 400k a year, and it would not matter if they were purple, i believe under Howard the annual rate was something like 120k, we have people living in our local park and its all over Brisbane, i recently tried to rent a caravan for a family member, none were available but one was coming up at Springwood for 520$ a week, 400k immigrants a year is way over the long term average and the cost of housing and the shortage are a direct result, it has nothing to do with the race or where they come from.
People have been living on the street forever, there could be rooms available everywhere & people will still live on the street & in times like these with an ugly political, Culture war led shitfight it gets weaponised & made out that it’s unprecedented
You’re seeing all the classic signs of the opposition creating fear & division, just like America, drag the knuckle dragging ignorant masses in with issues like immigration, homelessness, trans people in sport, weaponising Israel vs Palestine etc
Making out that all these things are supported by the left & then you have Dutton & more so One nation & Craig Kelly etc, Clive Palmer all apeing the shitty slogans of Trump & musk, how long will it be before they all start saying “woke mind virus” ?
If people are eating up their shit they’re stupid
Sorry, I just hate conservatives
