Fire up everyone!! Strap in and fire up because boy oh boy, aren't we in for a big week? That's right, derby week, rivalry week, hate week, whatever you want to call it, it's here. We've all been eagerly awaiting this, and I'm sure we all had this circled in our calendars as soon as the 2025 draw came out. The fuse will be lit, and the feelings will be strong as we take on our old foe from across Anzac Parade, the Roosters, this Friday night in a massive Round 5 clash at Accor. I'm licking my lips already, this is going to be huge.
Hate is a word that's thrown around pretty loosely these days, everyone says it in an every day context. But do they really mean it? I'm not sure. But when I say I hate these pricks from Bondi, I mean it. I really mean it. We all really mean it. it's hard to describe, but it's just such a deep-seeded hatred for them. We despise them. In fact, I honestly don't think hate is a strong enough word to describe how we all feel about the Roosters. I can't wait for that feeling of hatred towards them to build as the week goes on, then explode on Friday night! Let's get it on.
The two oldest clubs in the league. Arch-rivals. 117 years of pure hatred and spite. There's no doubt this is the biggest rivalry in Rugby League. I'm sure we'll show that on Friday night as another chapter gets written into the Book of Feuds. Man, I can't wait.
Although we need to use this feeling of hate towards them, we can't let it cloud us, we can't let the red mist descend. Because as up for this as we'll be, I'm sure the Roosters will be just as fired up. They'll be feeling it just as much as we are, so we need to be wary. It's hard to know what to expect from them to be honest, they've had an up and down start to the year that's for sure. They've had some big, poor losses, but also a massive win against Penrith just a couple of weeks ago. I'm more expecting that kind of Roosters to come out in this one, more so than the Roosters who self-imploded against the Titans Friday night just gone. They'll be smarting after that and will be desperate to make amends. Any side that is capable of beating Penrith is a force to be reckoned with. And any side that still has the likes of Tedesco, Young, Tupou, Townsend, Leniu and Crichton in it, is a force to be reckoned with. They still have a good side, so I don't want to see us take them lightly.
For our lads, as I mentioned earlier, it's all about harnessing the hate, and using it in the right way. We were really good at that against the Roosters under Wayne in the past, so hopefully we can do that again. We need to turn up with the same mentality we did against Penrith and just go out there and give them nothing. We cannot gift them opportunities, or they'll make us pay. Our defence will have to be good again too as they have a strong pack, and some dangerous outside backs. So, I'm looking for an even better defensive performance. If we can do all that, we win. It's going to be easier said than done, but we can do it. We all know we can. having Latrell back will be absolutely massive, so excited for that!! Huge in. Hope he's in for a stormer against his old club. Hubner back too ready to rip in for his first taste of the rivalry.
Ughhhhh I just can't wait!! Strap in and enjoy rivalry week everyone! Let's get ready to hopefully cook these Chooks.
Fire up!!
Glory, Glory.
