Moving onto the next week, and we go into Round 21. Seven games to go, and in this one, we take on the Raiders in the nation’s capital on Sunday night. A pretty big clash for us that I’m sure will have plenty of build up during the week. The main storyline will of course be Jackie Wighton’s first game against his old club and it being the first time he’s returned to Canberra since signing with us. I’m sure it would feel a little strange for him, but I’m also sure it will fire him up and he’ll hopefully be in for a big one.

It's a bit of a tough game too. The Raiders are a little up and down in 2024. They have a roster that is capable of making the eight, with a lot of rep talent in the side, especially in the forwards, but they just seem to underperform for the most part. Let’s hope that’s the case come Sunday, but I have a feeling it’s not going to be. Ricky wasn’t happy with their performance on Friday night, and he’ll be into them this week, so expect us to face a different side on Sunday night. It’s going to be a challenge I feel, but one we’re hopefully up to.

For us, the big focus this week HAS to be defence. Our attack is fine, and will do the job as long as our forwards match theirs, but if we defend like we did yesterday, then Canberra will carve us up. We’ve taken a massive step backwards in that area lately, so it MUST improve. If we can defend at the level we were during the winning streak, then I’m confident the other areas of our game are good enough to get us over the line.

A Sunday game means a long turnaround and plenty of time to get things right and build again so hopefully the boys can do that.

Looking forward to Sunday! And can’t wait to see us run out there in our very nice alternate strip.

Have a good week lads! Let’s go!!

Glory, Glory.

We have 4 options to replace Kennar.

Chee Kam
Cook
Myers
Thompson

Tough assignment given the outs.

Our defence the last 2 weeks sans Murray and Latrell has been lacklustre.

Weak first up contact lets the opposition get too much of a roll on and it’s hard to contain them from there.

It is a Jack Wighton homecoming though, so maybe the boys lift for that or the Raiders implode.

It’s a tough road trip any time but especially down on troops.

Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves and come away with 2 points (even if it is a little ugly).

MCK is a backrower. Cook is a hooker. Myers and Thompson are centres. Probably Thompson. If he did give a debut to Myres would you take the goal kicking off Cook after last week?

I'm expecting a big game from Jack this week. I don't know how many times I have seen players go to another level when they play against their old club, like Keppie did in round 16 against Manly.

From my viewing of the last cup match vs thr Roosters, Myers is not ready for nrl yet. Cook to keep the kicking duties wherever he plays. I for one would be happy to see him selected to play in the centres! Alternate option ... Thompson on bench and see how he goes on an edge off the bench and could backfill in backs if needed?

It’s going to be cold down there. One thing I don’t look forward to is playing night games down there during the middle of winter.

The commitment just hasn't been there these past two weeks. They were doing really well with locking up the ball in tackles in the first five games of our winning run, but have drastically fallen away in that department with teams now offloading at will. That should be our focus this week because it's easy to see that opposition coaches are right onto it. We also need to be taking a leaf out of that book and going all out to get maximum amount of points in these next few games. If we keep winning you can bet our spot in the 8 will come down to for and against.

Canberra is the only place to snow in an NRL game. Round 17 2000. Agree, winter in Canberra is cold.
This is probably not helpful.

I worry that Tapine Papa and Hudson will trample our pack and we won’t be able to put them down especially with who we have out.

It’ll be extremely hard down there. Timoko and Savage are fast out wide too.

Early market…

Raiders $1.65
Rabbitohs $2.25

Big week for Moale and Keppie. We’ve asked a lot of them the last 2 months, but our chances really do live a die with them to an extent.

Well...I'll be in the Bungle Bungles on a Kimberleys tour, so I probably won't be able to watch the next couple of games.

Hopefully we'll still have a slim chance of making the finals!

(I am so looking forward to some warm ****ing weather I gotta say!)
