The season starts week one Feb 14th. There are a lot of former NRL players now in the ESL and over dozen have transferred for this season alone. Good players too like Tom, Milne, Kyle Feldt, Luke Keary, JWH, TPJ and Nick Cotric to name a few. Also quite a few former Rabbitohs are either playing or coaching that has got me interested.
For the 2025 campaign the only change is Wakefield Trinity return to the top level replacing the London Broncos. Their first game is against 2024 finalists Hull KR, (to quote Bruce Willis, "welcome to the party pal")!.
The last game of round one is the main game for me. Giants v Wolves. Tom Burgess first game and against his bro Sam as Wolves coach. Also Jacob Gagai and keen to see how Milne goes and what position he plays in the Giants line up.

Be a very interesting season. I’ve been a Wigan fan since we signed Madge from them but it’s time for someone new to claim the title.

Hull KR look very likely while Warrington should do some damage. Wigan look just as strong as last year though and will be hard to take down.

I like the history as some of these clubs were founded as far back as the 1860s. My support has always been fairly nuetral but now is more toward Warrington due to Sam Burgess being their coach. I think he will at some stage in the near future be the Rabbitohs head coach so I am very interested to see how he progresses. The Champion I think will come from one of these 4. St Helens, Hull KR, Warrington or Wigan. If I had to pick one then Hull KR. They are a top team already and have recruited well. JWH from Roosters, former international winger Tom Davis to replace Ryan Hall and backrower Rhyse Martin who will be their goal kicker. And a former Rabbitohs coach in Willie Peters.

Wigan will be strong again and Warrington and Hull KR look good but I think St Helens will win it this year. I predict a Wigan vs St Helens GF

Catalans look like they have recruited like the Bulldogs for 2025. Tommy Makinson from St Helens, Nick Cotric from Raiders, TPJ from Phins and probably going to the Rabbitohs in 2026 if you believe in 3rd time lucky, and their best buy Luke Keary from Roosters. I didn't think Makinson would ever leave St Helens. He is like our AJ. He will play outside either Cotric or Remis Smith so he will get a lot of good ball. Catlans just missed the finals last year but with their recruitment I think they will be finals bound this year, probably 5th. In my opinion the big difference for them will be Luke Keary but they need a 7 to really challange the top 4.

Two good signings to add to an already strong squad. Lewis Murphy is a good signing too. A shame he got such a bad injury before going to the Roosters.
Kyle Feldt will be on one wing to replace Makinson but the other wing is up for grabs. Bennison the incumbent or Lewis Murphy.

I like St Helens buys in Sailor and Feldt. Very astute.
Their spine will be interesting. It looks like Harry Robinson will miss out. Clarke or Mbye will be the 9 and 14 probably in that order. Lomax will play 7 to replace Dodd. If Welsby plays 5/8 then Sailor plays FB where he was good for the Broncos when he replaced Walsh. Otherwise Welsby plays FB and Sailor plays 5/8. Either way, it looks like their best potential, Robinson, misses out.

From what I’ve seen of both players I think Lewis Murphy is the better player.

Why guys like Cotric, Milne, R Smith and TPJ are over in ESL is lost on me. They are better than some guys in top 30 squads in the NRL currently and still young enough to have an impact. Think it hints that there’s something off with the way clubs value talent and keep them in a system without payroll getting out of hand.

Nic Cotric signed with Catalans for 3 years very quickly and I don't think he even tested the market here first. Only 26, he had years of NRL left in him. Cotric would have been a good pick up for us just to name one team.

TPJ is different as I think his ESL move is only an interim for $$$ until he returns to the NRL. It appears that he was interested in coming to Souths with Wayne for 2025 and onward but we didn't have the cap space that he wanted. The easy fix was a one year deal at Catalans where he can get some good $$$ as a marquee player. Why else would a player like TPJ sign for just one year? I think Wayne will create some cap space for TPJ for the 2026 season.
