What anasta says is that the roosters surround you with people who help you invest your money more effectively. He also says they create networks that provide players with post career opportunities. He says that’s why players are prepared to take less to go there

we have the business contacts to create that kind of environment so why aren’t we known for doing that.
It's this IMO and always has been. It's the access to the networks, not just to help you invest money or have a landing spot post footy career but 'solve' issues for you as they come up. You can potentially have access to a range of people, not just corporate but also the corridors of power.

It's the same model as the GPS schools, it's the relationships built as much as any quality of the education that makes them so valuable.

That could have more to do with his marraige split
No it had more to do with bad investments on losing horses (allegedly)

The Fox job saved him. He’s learned his lesson and that’s why he now seeks out Politis and Bouris for financial advice

Late night random thoughts…

Given where we have stood as a club at least since the early 2010s, is it a little odd we havent heard more from Blake & co given the year we had? I mean we finished 2nd last! yet I can barely recall a quote or interview where he has addressed any of it.

I get itd be mostly cliche and empty and him saying we are sorry or fixing it isnt going to change anything or make us feel warm & fuzzy but still even just from a public image or appeasing the fanbase perspective, it was like we signed Wayne and that was supposed to send the message of everything is sweet and we’re fixing it.

You see other clubs receive email updates on general club & football operations from their CEO’s so I mean it could be an email or a puff piece with Dean Ritchie but I just think its a little weird to not want to speak to your 30k members given the circumstances of the last 18 months.

Surely if you capitulate one year and fail miserably the next, the problems are bigger than one guy ie JD and you’ve got plenty to address?

If you’re a member go to the next AGM & ask away, that’s the official platform

They probably said what they needed to when they sacked JD. In hindsight 2025 started then. You sack your coach 2 months into the season and you’re making a statement.

Think it’s only Parra the year JT took over that have ever made a finals post sacking the coach? Unless someone has done it since.

The ‘not good enough’ statement was showing the door to JD, Croll and O’Callaghan.

The ‘but we have a plan’ statement was signing Wayne.

Ellison should be on that list. From all previous correspondence from the club, he was taking over Richo’s role as the head of the football department and since Richo left it has been one cluster f$&k after another

Signing a 75 year old coach as of next season doesn’t really scream we have a plan.

It sounds more like let’s plug this hole before the ship totally sinks.

I’m not saying I’m against the signing of Wayne. In the current climate and under the current circumstances, with the current squad it makes sense

But I want to see appointments and long term plans put in place which will buffer against the Wayne effect when he departs

I’m not seeing a new strong manager of football, an experienced and dynamic head of recruitment or any new coaching structures or appointments throughout all grades apart from Antonelli and Elkin coming in who are part of Wayne’s appointments

It really looks like Solly and Ello are hiding under the desk hoping no one notices they aren’t up to running a football department

I agree with the sentiment that apart from Wayne, we don’t seem to have a good football brain in the organisation currently.

But I acknowledge that’s like saying the Knights have no star players… except Ponga. Who is about as star as it gets (Wayne being the Ponga comp in this analogy).

In regards to a plan, if Wayne serves his 3 years, that’s about as good of a guarantee that you’ll have a competitive footy team as you can get in this game. So while I’d love a savvy operator behind Wayne, in the short term, it’s the next best thing.

But I agree with your point 100% that we need some football smarts injected into the club, stat.

Because since Richo left, we’ve been lacking in that area (short of Wayne shouldering the load).

And I can’t help but think they have a Hollywood scripted plan to bring Sam in after Wayne, and you can’t do that if you don’t have a quality football department operator (be it Head of Football or Development or both) taking some slack there.

Am I right in saying we havent brought in anyone external in that space in a long time either? Solly has been around since 2016 or so, Ello a lot longer than that, Brock Schaefer was another around since 2015 or 16, I think Joe O came in 19 but probably didnt have the same seniority as those above.

Surely we’re about due some fresh blood in that space from hopefully one of the better performing clubs.

Just announced the Dragons won’t be renewing their CEO’s contract and Blake Solly and Brock Schaefer are linked to the role.

SMH:
Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity due to the confidential nature of discussions told the Herald that the Dragons approached South Sydney boss Blake Solly to gauge his interest in the position.

Solly had conversations with multiple Dragons directors but informed them it was his preference to remain at South Sydney and work with Wayne Bennett in his second spell at the club.

Blake wants Abdo's job. Doubt he leaves here for another club unless he's pushed.
