Commentators on Fox League and Ch9

Hate them all whether its 9 or FOX for their hypocrisy and their agenda driven commentary or point of views.

I’m in the minority, but Warren Smith, with Gould, Slater and maybe a JT on the sideline, (and Bracey/Sampson doing to intro to the game) is about as good a box as I could muster (for myself) at this point.

Unpopular opinion and maybe I’m just used to him, but I don’t hate Fitler on the sideline.

It isn’t a golden period for commentary.

Bring back peak Sterlo and Rabs, please.

The commentary bin is well and truely scraped out for mine. Maybe it’s the advent of HD tv but I don’t see the need for the ‘going hyper’ every set. I also find the wannabe comedy shtick irritating like a 3corner jack in my undies (Freddie - 😖) and those end of game on field panels 😣. As for expert analysis- I think the problem is that there is rarely an intelligent question asked by the game caller -too much of it is derived from bunker calls or more accurately endless replaying of a single pass or error.

Goulds efforts to be Jack Gibsonesque in his minimalist responses, lack Givson’s defining quality - see it and say it, Phil often imagines it and says it - and people wonder what he’s talking about. I also hate His dropping the plural s on a team name - South, (ffs it South’s) or Rooster, etc ).

Radio is not much better either - though I don’t mind John Gibbs - on actual football or in player interviews. Shame he has to put up with Luke Lewis and Andrew Moore

The commentary of Andrew Voss would be my favourite. I also like the way Dan Ginnane excitedly calls attacking plays, except I'm over his "goodbye" line. Probably my all time favourite in the commentary box was Daryl Eastlake. Could be the best weightlifting and sumo wrestling caller ever too. Only one of him. I may be on my own here but I think the Superleague commentary is up there with our best, if not better.

I miss Fatty too - just from an energy perspective, not because he was great technically or anything.

Dont get me started on Cricket… growing up listening to Richie, Greig, Lawry etc was peak living!

Voss would be great if he wasn’t so fixated with giving his opinion on random things. Often trivial. Call the game Vossy, the guy next to you is there for the opinion and insight.

Sometimes he goes on inane rants where I’m convinced he’s forgotten he’s calling a game and is instead just talking to himself.

I think it’s the Beatles effect.

Ray Warren and Peter Sterling were so good at what they did, that the next generation is just doing a bad impersonation as opposed to finding their own thing.

Who is your favourite and who you can not stand.

I like Andrew Voss, I can not stand Mark Caroll.

I can not understand what he is saying, most of the time.

I much prefer Blocker, has so much experience, back in the day.
To be honest, I cannot stand the conflicts in interest across the media. Do baby are connected to clubs or are player managers that it is hard to respect their commentary.

Blocker is a dumb person's idea of a dumb person.

I don't know if it's because of who he is, or his unique voice, but people put him in a category he doesn't belong in. He's actually pretty good for his role. Much better than Cronk, who tries to sound smart but isn't.

None are particularly great since the era of Rabs and Sterlo has ended however.

Just feel Blocker doesn't deserve to be in the goof category, he's pretty good.

More importantly, whatever personality the Fox producers are trying to direct out of Walters needs to end. Absolutely punishing to listen to.

Also, Ennis is highly emotive and contradictory, but his enthusiasm for the game is welcome. Every commentator should be amplifying the product and he does that.

Vossy on fox and the boys club on 9 tends to shit on the product too much.

I don't mind what Blocker says, only the pitch of his voice.

The worst of the Fox crop is Mick Ennis. By the length of the Randwick straight. He is an absolute punish to listen to. Ironically one of the nicest blokes you would ever meet, but listening to him drives me insane. If he had a YouTube channel he'd be one of those over-the-top fake reaction channels .

When Gus Gould puts away his ego and agendas, he is untouchable when it comes to footy knowledge and insight... but those are very few and far between his usual postering and grandstanding.

Sterlo was the absolute doyen of unbiased commentary too.

Now you just have the ex-players literally cheering their former teams on from the commentary box.
AI Rabs and Sterlo for the 2030 season onwards will pop off.
