Chasing Glory - 2014 Doco

Watching this series made me remember how much our rebuild post privatisation was based around Storm culture exports.

Storm: Kidwell, Crocker, Inglis, Madge, King.

With a prior assist from the great Dogs teams prior to privatisation in Asotasi and Vagana.

We need the social media team to make a video of Max's top 20 tries.

We cant allow anyone to forget how good the great man was.
My brain might be conflating things.

Did the club send members a dvd one year that showed all the tries Merritt scored one year he topped the try-scorers count?

I think we did that when I was there.

I cant remember?

That would be a great upload!!!

Correct. From the 2006 season I think.

The latest episode covering ‘Gen Next’, reminds me how important a year it is for a few of our guys.

I know a lot of the attention gets put on Mitchell, Walker, Koloamatangi, etc, but for me, the 6 guys we need to have big seasons are Munro, Mellars, Dodd, Humphreys, Duncan and Moale (depending who you like in the squad I get you could sub some of those names).

Those guys have the opportunity to be the 2025 versions of AJ, Walker, Keary, Api, Turner and Tom.

Those guys lifted the side in 2014. We’d lost some experienced guys in Asotasi, King, Lima and (during the year) Merrit, and those guys stepping up really took us the final part of the way. You add a guy like Auva’a or Turner having career years and keeping guys like Reddy, Goodwin and Lowe out of the side, and it’s the difference between a late finals bow out and a premiership.

It also helped they came in with peak Inglis, Burgess, Reynolds.

For this crop of young kids they need the confidence of playing alongside peak Mitchell, Murray, Walker...

Big year for Latrell IMO.

Interesting the yarn in the newest episode about it at one point looking like it would be Keay and Sutton in the halves, not Reynolds and Keary.

Reminds me how little of the season as a whole I remember. Games like Manly, Roosters, and a couple of others I have clear memories of. But there’s plenty of results there that I have zero recollection of.

Also interesting to look at the improvement mindset we had.

Coming 4th, and league leader towards the end of the year, and Madge shuffles things because he knows we can be better. So many times of late I feel like we’ve just kept the status quo because ‘things are going pretty good’.

Reynolds being hooked against the Eels was a huge wake up call. When Keary came on he turned the game.

The injury to Sutton early in the Raiders game prevented us going down that path.
