Player Damien Cook

@daRque I don't know if I've ever agreed with anything you've ever posted for the last 20 yrs but I appreciate your post on Mamo last night for what it's worth.
I agree. I thought we looked much better with him at DH and we got a roll on and some rhythm to our play which has been sadly missing.
He just needs more time imo but I doubt supercoach will give him what he needs.

Cook imo is going through the motions. His defence numbers may look good but he's always 3rd man in and is totally ineffective at wrapping up the ball. His ruck awareness, in both attack and defence is appalling for a 9 and last night he flatly refused to pass the ball to Hawkins. When Mamo is on the field Hawkins starts to come to some sort of life. With Cook, he's ignored.
Personally, I think the fork should be readied for Cook as he's cokked

With the injuries we have for long periods I think we leave the 2 hookers. I want to see Pete start and Cook come from the bench.

Pete does seem to grow as the game goes on. But he also has some obvious defensive issues. He isn’t the 80 minute hooker just yet. Not sure if he will be.
Yeah agree, 2 hookers with Cook coming on off the bench, with one instruction - run when you can.

You don't need to be a beach sprint champion to run from DH. Mamo runs at the right times, where as Cook only runs, in an attempt catch out markers not square, or defenders offside.

Mamo has more game sense, and better service.

Saw Cook trying to hold a Storm player around the chest while another Souths player had stopped his progress, Storm player just off loads to another Storm player which I think lead to a try.

For someone earning his salary you would expect Cook would have the brains to lock the ball in to prevent the off load, as with many in the team and the coach he just doesn't have football smarts.
Yeah that was really poor from Cook and as you say, a player of his stature and on his salary needs to be much better there.

Mamo was appalling too. The missed tackles for the Grant and Munster tries were disgraceful so he may not be the answer either.

In Mamo’s defence, he is a young reserve grade player stepping up to first grade. You expect him to make mistakes. Cook has no such excuse.

Been cooked since 2019 but got multi years extensions while Reynolds got shafted. Really says something about our management that Cook is seen as a crucial cog even though he really has done nothing since being here and Reynolds who won us a premiership is virtually kicked to the curb.

Sack the lot of them.

Easy to focus on attack. Both were not first grade standard in defence.

Mamo deserves some slack though, he only played around 10 first grade games or so and his defence is on par with Cook.

Defence can improve over time.

No excuses for Cook, around 200 games, rep footy and finals experience he should be much better.

The GF qualifier against the Raiders should have resulted in Cook being marked as gone end of his contract, he was terrible in that game and considering the cap space he takes up should have been moved on. Easier to replace a 9 than a 7, Mamo has been an understudy for too long with limited opportunities in FG and it just delays his development. Cook's had a great run with Souths, paid significant overs the last few years considering his return to the club.

The club needs to be like the Roosters and Politis, Cook would have been long gone from there on his performances the last 4 years.

Crowe needs to channel his inner Maximus Meredius and start to put some of the coaching staff, management and players taking the coin from the Souths till with minimal accountability and return to the sword.

Reynolds who won us a premiership

LOL, no he didn't.

If you want to give one person credit for that GF win then it would be Sam Burgess with one of the greatest performances from a forward in a GF that you'd ever hope to see.

Reynolds has done more for Souths than what Cook has ever done for the team.

Which has nothing to do with my reply.

If you honestly believe Reynolds had more to do with delivering #21 to us than Sam Burgess did you're on the wacky backy.
